Default Hands on review: Cingular 8700c Leather Case - 04-23-2006, 03:51 PM

Cingular 8700c Case

Hands on review by lgreenberg

April 23, 2006

Price as reviewed: $24.99

Everyone knows I’m a case addict. Well I happened to be at the mall today and swung by one of the Cingular corporate stores there. What did I see? A lone Cingular case made specifically for the 8700c. I thought I had remembered reading where someone had posted they saw the case in a store by them but I had yet to see it for myself. Well of course I bought it and decided to post a review of it.

The case is packaged in a Cingular plastic dome and clearly says “compatible with Blackberry 8700c Devices” on it.

At first glance I was immediately reminded of the Fortte STi case. This case is open topped with elastic sides. It’s made from black leather and smells great.

The inside has a smooth, gray, felt lining.

I was disappointed to find out that the belt clip used on the case does not swivel. It is however very strong. It’s a little short for my taste and doesn’t have that little notch at the bottom like other clips of this style do. You know, the one that locks the clip on to your belt. So I think I’d be too nervous to wear this clip all day.

As I said though it’s very strong. The clip almost snaps back to place when you pull on it.

While in the case the track wheel, charging port and audio jack are still accessible.

This case provides for a very slim profile when worn on the hip.

The fit of the 8700 in this case is very tight. I could not really get my 8700c into the case with a set of Egrips on the battery door. Once I removed the Egrips the fit was fine. I would not recommend this case to someone who uses Egrips.

The case does accommodate the Blackberry with the extended battery door installed.

The case does have a built in sleeper magnet and it puts the Blackberry to sleep inserted either screen in or out.

This is a nice, inexpensive case. I think it’s a good option for someone who’s looking for protection while carrying their Blackberry in their pocket, purse or briefcase. My wife has already snatched it up. She carries her 8700c exclusively in her purse.

I give this case 3 out of 5 Blackberries.

Pros: Slim, good fit, sleeper magnet.
Cons: Non-swivel belt clip, short belt clip.

How much could you possibly see from that picture?

LMAO From the review pics, I saw the table that was used in that review, a bookcase, stairwell, radio, statue (can't see what's on the wall behind that statue), clock, and a hallway.

And, I hope this isn't offtopic here, but I posted a request to submit a review I wrote on a game I have on my 7105t.

What you did was submit a request to coreyg510 to have him review that game.

Please note the title of that thread:

"What application reviews would you like to see?"

Have you written the review already?

how much is the STi after forum discount? because I'm thikning of maybe getting the Sti with leather clip as my pocket case... now just to find that last case.

So far:
RipOffs= industrial situations, job site, etc, when i need serious protection
sti/cingular?=casual situations, mainly wearing shorts, purely for the sleeper functions, maybe as a belt clip
dressier situations= looking at the open face, but still kind ofw ant protection. This is where I run into a wall on cases.

FINALLY! Found a store with ONE! YAY! I'm happy with it. Fits in my shorts pocket, and stays on my belt in a way I feel secure with.

Where case I buy this case? I am looking for a slim leather case and this could be the one. Most of the leather cases I see are bulky.

How does this case hold up? Looks like there is not much support, except for the elastic sides.

lgreenberg, in the link you supplied, the case looks the same, but maybe a knockoff since it does not have the Cingular packaging?

Best collection of BobbleHeads EVER!

Great review. I'll probably pass on this as a number of friends have it and they frequently complain about the 'loose' fit it has when worn on the pocket.

Well, I actually bought this case about a week ago, prior to reading this review. It wasn't out on the floor, the guy had to go into a storage place in their wall, so you may have to ask if they have it.
