Gizmoskin 8700 Series New Releases

Hands on review by: lgreenberg

May 16, 2006

Tough Black Lambskin Leather Pouch

Price as reviewed: $29.95

You canxxx8217;t help but love a company like Gizmoskin. A company that does everything it can to respond to the needs, wants and concerns of their customers. When problems arose with the first Gizmoskin case for the 8700 series Blackberry Gizmoskin responded and kept responding until they got it right. You can read my review of the current version of the original Gizmoskin here.

Well Gizmoskin is at it again and this time theyxxx8217;ve released three new cases for the 8700 series Blackberry.

First wexxx8217;ll look at the xxx8220;Tough Black Lambskin Leather Pouch.xxx8221;

The outside of this case is made with a hard shell like lining and is wrapped in a tough semi-glossed cowhide. The strength of this case can be felt from the moment you pick it up.

New Tough Black Lambskin case on the left and original Gizmoskin on the right.

The inside of the case is made with a soft velvet like interior and will keep you phone snug, safe & protected. The inside dimensions of the case has been carefully calculated so that it starts out at the perfect size. This leather has very minimal give and has been designed that after months of use you still have a 100% ideal fit.

The frame of the case slightly overlaps the width of the case. This creates an ideal shape and size to protect your phone even when you drop it.

A magnetic closure with hidden magnets under the leather will snap closed tightly keeping your 8700 safe and secure inside this case. The invisible magnets give this case a sleek look.

A swivel clip attached to the back will allow you to wear your 8700 vertically or horizontally.

This case offers a very slim profile when worn on your belt.

The case contains a built in sleeper magnet which works perfectly when the device is inserted screen in or out.

This is a very nice case. If you like the original Gizmoskin youxxx8217;ll probably like this one too. My only complaint is the belt clip thatxxx8217;s used and thatxxx8217;s just a personal thing with me. Ixxx8217;ve never been a fan of this style of belt clip. Ixxx8217;m always afraid itxxx8217;s going to come off my belt.

I give this case 4 out 5 Blackberries.

Pros: Slim design, great fit, strong leather, sleeper magnet.
Cons: Belt clip not my favorite.

Black Lambskin Leather Shell Blackberry 8700 Pouch with Swivel Clip

Price as reviewed: $39.95

Next up is the Black Lambskin Leather Shell with swivel belt clip.

Your Blackberry 8700 is a feature rich but large sized device, don't bulk it up with large cases and thick belt clips. This case allows you to maintain a very slim profile when worn on your belt.

This case is made in a premium lambskin leather material. The metal clip is wrapped in a tougher cowhide for durability and ease of getting on and off the belt. Every detail has been analyzed before the production of this new model.

The swivel clip is one of the lowest profile available on the market. This allows you to wear the case close to your body making it nearly invisible under a jacket and allowing you to clearly feel the vibrate alert on the phone.

The Blackberry 8700 sleeper magnet is fully functional and allows you to place the 8700 facing in or out.

Black Lambskin Leather Shell Blackberry 8700 Pouch

Price as reviewed: $39.95

Finally wexxx8217;ll look at the Black Lambskin Leather Shell with Snap Belt Loop. This case is identical to the one I reviewed above except for this belt clip. This case uses a snap over the belt type of clip which does not swivel.

This case has a unique button down style clip; it is a hybrid belt clip/belt loop. This clip style comes with all the advantages of a thin and strong belt loop, without the need to take your belt off and feed it through the loop!

This case is made in a premium lambskin leather material. The button down clip is lined in a tougher cowhide for durability. Every detail has been analyzed before the production of this new model.

For those of you who do wear their 8700 on a belt, just look at the side profile picture! It says it all!! This thin design allows you to wear the case very close to your body so that you can feel the vibrate alert clearly and best of all there will be no large protrusion from the side of your body! The case will be invisible underneath a jacket or sweater!

The Blackberry 8700 sleeper magnet is fully functional and allows you to place the 8700 face in or out.

If you like a fixed style clip this case would be a great choice. It does not swivel but provides a super-slim profile when worn on your belt. This case would also be a good choice for someone who wants a slim pouch that isnxxx8217;t worn on a belt but carried in a purse or bag.

I give this case 4 out 5 Blackberries.

Pros: Slim design, great fit, strong leather, sleeper magnet.
Cons: None.

These are nice
They don't seem to make any without the belt clip for those of us who just want something to slip in and out of our pockets yet want full protection
Do you have any suggestions since clearly you are king of the cases
Thanks by the way for these reviews they really are a great resource

As I mentioned in the review of the last case if you're someone who likes to carry their device in a case but in your pocket, purse or bag then I'd think the last case (the one with the snap over the belt clip) would be a great choice. It maintains a super-slim profile.

Otherwise you could always look at the Fortte line-up. They make all of their case clipless. Sames goes for Krusell. The Krusell cases allow you to remove the belt clip stud if desired.

Update - I've been using the open pouch with the snap over belt clip exlcusively for the past few days. At first I was a little concerned that the snap closure wasn't strong enough and that it might disengage causing the case to come off my belt. It hasn't happened once so I guess my concerns were false.

I'm switching to the open pouch with swivel clip now. Update on that one in a few days.

I too have been using the pouch. I like it alot ,but the BB is a little loose in it and it fell out on the hardwood floor once. Othewise, it's great to have. I was going to put a piece of velcro on the inner side to cure this.

All of these look very cheap and ugly to me - is it just one of those situations where you have to see them first hand to appreciate them, or are they cheap and ugly?

Yeah I think you have to see them to appreciate them.

It also just might be they don't meet your particular taste.

They are very sleek, classic looking. The leather on the open pouches in wonderfully soft. They're just plain and simple.

I can see what SD means about the cases being too loose though. I have Egrips and Best Skins Ever on and I still think the fit is too loose out of the box. Imagine how loose it'll get as it gets broken in.

I'll have to mention this to Gizmoskin.

Any word on how the devices fit in these cases with the extended life battery?

Am I the only one who feels the extended life battery is a requirement? These devices drain batteries quick-

I don't recommend using these cases with the extended battery.

Too tight.
