Default Hands on review: Seidio 7130c Swivel Clip Holster - 07-10-2006, 04:11 PM

Seidio 7130c Swivel Clip Holster

Hands on review by lgreenberg

July 10, 2006

Price as reviewed: TBD

Those of you who own the 7130c know that unlike most of the other Blackberry models it does not ship with a plastic swivel holster. Instead RIM decided to include a leather/nylon pouch.

It’s not a bad case. The leather seems good and tough and the magnetic flap closure works well.

However, the belt clip is just too short.

For those of you who prefer the look and functionality of a plastic holster you’ll be happy to know Seidio is set to release their 7130c swivel clip holster. I was sent one to preview and therefore do not know the exact cost as of yet.

The holster is made from a durable black plastic which matches the color of the 7130c quite well.

It features a swivel belt clip on the back which swivel/locks into seven positions. The clip will not swivel 360 degrees around which prevents the device from accidentally falling out.

When inserted into the holster all of the 7130c’s side buttons and ports are level accessible.

The holster DOES have a sleeper magnet built in. The magnet is placed in the proper position and works perfectly.

The holster also DOES have a piece of rubber inserted into the top which acts as a buffer between the holster and the device. This prevents any marking or scratching of the top of the device where it comes in contact with the holster.

Once placed on your belt the holster offers the wearer a slim carrying profile.

You can’t ask for much more in a plastic holster. This holster securely carries the 7130c, it has a properly placed sleeper magnet and the clip locks in position. If you are used to the plastic holster that comes with most other Blackberry devices and miss it with your new 7130c you'll want to pick up one of these holsters ASAP.

I give this holster my highest rating. 5 out of 5 Blackberries.

Pros: Only available option for holster, sleeper magnet, secure.
Cons: None.

I'm just curious if one handed use of this holster is acheivealble. Thats the one thing that concerns me about not being able to try this holster our before buying it. Ah! they do offer a return policy...

It's definetly acheivable but I personally don't find it easy.

I prefer to do it two-handed most of the time.

Again, that's not to say you might have an easier time with it.

Must be nice....

Nah, in all seriousness can you explain the process of removing the device to us in detail?

It's the exact same process I detailed in my review of the 8700c Swivel Clip Holster:

Stripesace,
I can't comment on how the 7130 holster might be different but I insert and remove the 8700 from my Seidio Holster one-handed 100% of the time without problem. I have it horizontal facing forward. To pull out, I push against the clip with the side of my index finger while grabbing the 8700. To put it in I just... put it in, allowing the clip to slide over the top of the 8700.

Eh, if the price is right for both 8700 and the 7130 I may pick up both!

I just need IS or BSE for 7130 now...

Cons: Ports are exposed during carry, allowing for the uneccesary infiltration of dust and debris. An option to protect the ports from the environment would be welcome...

I notice that the holster is not for skinned devices. I suppose that means egrips is out of the question. This is a tough one as I find egrips to be an essential accessory. Decisions, decisions...

Does Seidio plan to release a holster for skinned 7130c devices (since the holster reviewed here is offered specifically for non-skinned devices)?

Default Concerns with the 7130g - 08-10-2006, 03:43 PM

I actually just recieved a 7130 holster from Seidio, but I do have to report what may be a little bit of an issue. I am in Canada and therefore use the 7130g from Rogers, and although in this excellent review it is specifically identified as a 7130c holster, Seidio insists that it will work interchangeably with a 7130g. The dimensions on both handsets are very similar but I have a few minor gripes with using this holster in conjunction with a 7130g. The 7130g does not have the same ridge on the upper back of the handset - this causes some concern about the effectiveness of keeping the handset upright.

Most significantly however, is my concerns with the extremely snug fit in the lower part of the holster. It would seem that the 7130g is a few millimetres wider and to really get it to fit properly requires a good deal of focus on strength. Once in, the holster had a beautifully slim profile and a snug fit... but maybe its a little too much of a good thing.

All in all, Im happy with the quality of the product and ther service I recieved - I just wanted to put a little caution in the air for any 7130g consumers. I'll leave any additional feedback if I feel all is well in a couple of days.

Thanks for reading.
