Default MSDE database keeps stopping

Please Login to Remove!

This is a strange issue that started happening a few weeks ago. I have BES running on Small Business Server 2003 for a single user. It used to run fine without issue. Nothing new was installed except periodic Windows updates. Here's the issue in greater detail:

There are 3 MSDE instances installed on this server - Sharepoint, SBSMonitoring, and BES. The BES instance keeps stopping, and I cannot get it running again unless I stop all the blackberry services, start the BES database, then restart all the blackberry services. After I do that, it runs for approximately 2 hours, then stops again. When it stops, the event log gets flooded with errors from pretty much all the blackberry services. The other instances on MSDE don't seem to be affected, and the user states that he still receives email on his BB after the instance goes down.

It appears that the MSIinstaller for SQL is causing the problem, but it only happens when the blackberry services are running. If I leave the services in the stopped state, it doesn't happen. Also, if I reboot the server, the BES instance of the MSDE database is in the stopped state, and again, I can't start it until I stop all the blackberry services. Here are the event log messages that come up when the BES instance goes down:

Under Application:

----Each of these comes up 5 times, one after the other. After all 10 event log messages, this one comes up once:

Check these out:

You receive a "Cannot connect to the configuration database" error message when you access your Windows SharePoint Services Web site and The event logs show "Product: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine -- Error 1706. An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'S

Google the error messages you're receiving as this doesn't appear to be related to BES at all.

Yeah, I read those a couple days ago. The first one pertains to WMSDE, not MSDE. WMSDE is not installed on this box. I tried to install the patch anyway, and it said the product wasn't installed. The second one only applies if there is a full-blown SQL server install that already exists on the box, which it doesn't.

The issue may not be related to BES specifically, but I find it odd that it only happens to the BES instance, and only if the BES services are running. I was hoping to find someone that has run into this exact issue.

I thought I would give this a bump. It was running fine for 6 days, then the MsiInstaller business started again, and stopped the BES instance of SQL again. This is really frustrating.

Personally I'd shift BES off the SBS server and for 1/2 users install on 150 dollar desktop, Officially an unsupported configuration but works fine for that number of users.
