Ok going to throw this one out to the forum. We're mainly an MSFT house running exchange 2003 (SP2) and BES 4.1.4 but in addition we run a phone server running asterisk on linux for communicating to the outside world (oh RIM please can I have a WiFI enabled BB with a SIP client). Laptop (mobile) users have softphones and use headsets, desktop users have hardphones.
but we seem to becoming more of a virtual company with more home/remote workers rather than office based ones - deskspace is one constraint. I'd like to install some enterprise IM tools to permit presence acknowledgement and to faciliatate team communication..
Do I just bite the bullet and go for something like MSFT LCS, as it must have AD integration or should I look at one of the opensource alternatives like jabber that might play nicely alongside my asterisk server. I want also to integrate to BBs into this (obviously). Or as we're less than 30 staff in total should I not care and tell people to use internet based solutions.
