Default 7290 Problems, calls cutting out

Please Login to Remove!

Hey Guys,

This happens alot and when it does i swap the device out and get it replaced for warrenty so its ok.

But i want to know what happens.

Alot of users complain about the 7290's "cutting out" when they are on the phone.

Its not a coverage issue as far as im aware of because they will be stationary in one spot talking then it cuts out.

The devices i deploy are a mix of new ones and used ones.

Anyone else have this problem?

Now im not sure when our users do with them, they could have droped it etc and i wouldnt know/they dont tell me. So... "could" be a hardware issue

Cheers

get an upgrade from your carrier rep. 7290s are pretty long in the tooth now and if you give a user a shiny new 83xx series, they'll love you forever.
oh and it should sort out your calls cutting out issue too..

What country are you in?

Hey,

We just got a hardware replacement a year ago and its gona be just under another year before our 7290 fleet get replaced.

We have a 2 year hardware contract. Im in New Zealand.

The 7290's i found through alot of device errors, although not so much with later firmware, next biggest problem for users is calls cutting out.

But as i said before, i can just send it in and get it replaced.

Just wanna see why its happening, and if anyone else experianced it?

Would love to give them all 83xx by the way

we had a customer that probably had about 500 7290s on GSM / GPRS here in the UK, and we didn't have an unusually large number of returns cos of calling issues...in fact my view was that the 7290s were 'trusty worhorses'

I would look at upgrading them all to the latest o/s version that your carrier supports. Unfortunately BES 4.1.5 wont' support OTA updating older devices like the 7290..

I'd try the latest handheld O/S for those devices (should include new radio software).

Out of curiousity, what part of the call is cutting out? Does the phone still work in one direction (i.e., is only the microphone portion or the ear piece cutting out?). Do your users use a wired or bluetooth head set? (I'm guessing not).

I know on the later models (8700 specifically) there are some anecdotal problems reported with the connections (little spring clips) on the microphone not making solid connections.

The users do not use bluetooth devices (some do but very very few)

Sometimes, they cant hear the customer but the customer can hear them, sometimes other way around.

but i think the biggest thing is calls getting "dropped"

Now, im still putting it down to wear and tear because our BB's get a rough life.

Will check the OS version on any returned phones i get and see
