Default Problems after moving BES server...

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have had to move our BES 4.1 for GroupWise server from one server to another (both Win2k servers).

I followed the guides on RIM's site...

I have finally got it working, but I have the following issues...

1. If I reboot the server, the BB services do not all load, some start, some say starting, some stopping... Basically, I reboot the server, and although I have waited a good 10 minutes or so, not all services start. So I simply reboot again, until they do start... Then I get error number 2...

2. Every successfull reboot has a system event viewer log of "The BlackBerry GroupWise Service service hung on starting". Everything seems to work though?

3. Since migrating the BESMgmt SQL database from the old server, In Blackberry Manager, I see old objects in the explorer view, from the old server (not up, never to be used again). These objects are...

How can I remove these objects from the database? Are they causing any harm or excess errors in the logs?

If anyone has successfully moved a BES for GW server to another box, please do tell!

Many thanks
Alan

KB03847 is applicable if you are moving your BES to a computer where the computer name is different from the original BES

KB05041 has a flaw in that RIM does not mentioned one condition i.e. the computer name of new server must remain the same as the old one.

I believe you blindly followed KB05041 and as a result, the new BES started and thought that "hey I got a new machine name and happily assign a new ID = '2' and hence you got the links to the old and new servers

Call your service provider for SQL scripts to remove those old objects dude.

I did the bit in KB03847 though? I followed both atricles in parallel.
The SQL commands in "Configure the Service Name and Machine Name on the Destination Server" were done.

Any ideas on the other issues, ie hanging on startup, and needing several reboots to successfully load services?

Thanks
Alan

It is either using KB03847 or KB05041. If the SQL commands are ran only after the new BES is started, then thats too late. The SQL commands should be ran before the new BES is started. The hanging on startup could be related to this, seek for a log review or consult service provider or RIM.

SQL commands done straight after importing the BESMgmt database, and BEFORE the services were started :(
Will get onto our carrier again, they are a little slow in replying, hence this post!
