We are going to upgrade our blackberry server. SQL is in remote location and what login credentials is needed to upgrade the config db which is in remote location.

SQL server authentication is happening based on the sql username and password not with windows login id.

In simple, I would be logging into blackberry server using that particular system's local administrative account to upgrade the blackberry server.

When the SQL configuration page comes during the upgrade process i will be providing the sqlserver username/password. Will that id be having necessary access to update the config db in sql server which is in remote location.

Or

The blackberry server admin userid should have "Serveradmin" role in SQL server.
Or

The SQL Username should have "Serveradmin" role in SQL server.

Please someone explain this.

Normally the upgrade program will use the existing SQL credential to upgrade the database. If you want to use a different credential you will have to change it using BlackBerry Server Configuration tool.

The easiest method would be to give the existing account Server Admin access on the SQL server, perform the upgrade, then remove the access.

What version are you upgrading from and to what version? Will you be using MDS Services?

We are upgrading from 4.0.6 to 4.1.4. We are using only SQL
