Default Disabling personal items from synching

Please Login to Remove!

Hello guys;
BES is still something new for me, in fact i installed it 3 days ago and it's running quite wel.
I have twi questions
1.Installing BES out of the box, is it dangerous or safe? I mean do i need to change anything within the default policies?
2.Can i disable synchronizing personal items (Contacts, calendar personal appointments) from my blackberry device to BES? While allowing the rest to synchronize?

Welcome to BBForums! Hopefully some help is coming ...

The server itself is "safe" ... in theory you'd have it behind a firewall and there are no inbound ports open to it so there's nothing to worry from that perspective. From a policy perspective ... a BB handheld when activated on your BES has access to your internal network. You can disable many things through policy and also enable certain things, such as requiring a password or locking devices.

Do you mean disable syncing of all PIM data or just specific items / categories? You can easily disable PIM sync for a user by simply going to their properties. For picking and choosing you'll have to get a little more creative and that would require some more thought

You can do this using IT Policy. Look under PIM Sync Policy Group.

Default Sync Calendar

I am looking at how we can only sync the calendar for a specific user, it is a non-exempt employee and HR's ruling is they shouldn't have access to email outside of the regular work hours, but this employee is visiting clients often and needs a calendar to track her schedule. Can you elaborate more on how to do this, or if it is even possible?
Thanks!

Can't be done.

There's no way to say the user only gets mail between 9am and 5pm. BlackBerry is about mail first and everything else second. The only way to disable mail redirection is to disable the account completely.

Sorry about that - Non Exempt means someone who works specific hours. You mean everyone isn't caught up on HR items

On your response x14, let me make sure i am clear - In order to sync anything you have to sync mail?
You can't say the user can see their calendar but not mail, correct?

Thanks for the quick responses -
