Default Default policy assigned to new user

Please Login to Remove!

We have 3 policies on our 4.1.4 MR2 Exchange 2003 SP2 BES:

- Blackberry Policy
- Blackberry Policy: Disable Phone
- Default

The majority of users are assigned the "Blackberry Policy", however, I've noticed that if I forget to assign that policy to them they get the "Blackberry Policy: Disable Phone" policy assigned to them by default.

Shouldn't they get the "Default" policy until another policy is defined? Is this a setting somewhere?

If you renamed your Phone Only Policy from the original default template or cloned the Default and then modified it for Phone phone this will happen.

Nope, I didn't copy or clone the Default policy. The other 2 were created from scratch.

Thanks for reply, though.

The Default policy cannot be renamed ... so if you create a user now throguh the BES Manager they get the disable phone policy by default?

The only thing I can think of is if they were a member of a group, but I'm sure you would be quite aware if that was the case....interesting issue.

No groups created (yet). I'm still getting used to the new BES Manager (although it's not that different to me) since the upgrade last week.

Had a theory on this, but was unable to replicate it. Thought that maybe if a user was removed without the BlackBerry information being removed, that it may remember the IT Policy...

Not saying you didn't do this, but was a way to test the Database.

I figured it out. I'm a moron.

It's not really assigning the 'Phone Only' policy to users, it just looks that way when I right click on a user's name and select Assign IT Policy.

The 'Phone Only' is the one that shows in THAT dialog box. However, if I'm just looking at the new user via the Managment console (showing the IT Policy column), I do see that they are, in fact, assigned the 'Default' IT Policy.

UGH. Time for more hair color. Or maybe less.
