We have one domain and two exchange servers. One exchange server is at our main location and the second is at a remote location and contains the e-mail mailboxes for that location.

Both our primary and backup data circuits to the second remote location have failed (very bad hail storm last night.) The blackberry users whose mailboxes exists on that exchange server are not getting their e-mail on their blackberrys even though the BES server indicates that it is forwarding the e-mail and the device has recieving it. The BES server is at our main site along with the exchange server that receives all the incoming e-mail.

My question is does the BES server need to have access to a mailbox before it forwards the e-mail to a users blackberry? I always thought that the BES server forwarded the e-mail before the exchange server put the e-mail in the mailbox.

Um Yes..

no the email comes into the exchange server and is then processed via the BESadmin account which picks up the email and then chucks it out at the device.

Restore your links to/from the BES to location 2 and you should be ok (perhaps with a re-boot on the BES once back in place)
