Default IT Policy - Secure Wipe Delay After Lock

Please Login to Remove!

Secure Wipe Delay After Lock

Specify the length of time, in hours, after the BlackBerry device locks that the BlackBerry device securely wipes all of its user data. The permitted range is 2 to 720 hours.

Use this IT policy rule to require a BlackBerry device that the user has not unlocked within the length of time specified to perform a secure wipe of user data.

Hello all,

I have a customer who is experiencing sporadic "wipes" on his 8700c. After replacing the device numerous times and placing him in different policies I am stumped. As a result of further investigation I came across the rule listed above within the IT policy and noticed it was set to Null. My main question is, if this is set to null (blank) is there any way to configure this on the handheld itself? (so far I have not found any method of doing so) and would it be possible to confirm what the setting is on the handheld even though the policy has been pushed successfully?

My next step is to move the customer to a new server and create a new policy specifically including "false" for this policy, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

C

If you want to wipe a BES IT Policy off a BlackBerry, the old trusted method was to install an old copy of Desktop Manager and install it as BIS not BES. Then attach the problem device and it magically deletes any reference to the BES it was registered with.

Right, but what I am looking for before wiping and moving to a new server/policy I would like to see if there is a way to determine whether or not I can confirm that this setting is set properly on the device. At this point, the only confirmation I have is that the policy was sent successfully.

Thanks for your response!

My thinking was to wipe the current policy using the BIS Desktop Manager method and run Enterprise Activation again whilst applying an IT Policy you know doesn't have the 'Secure Wipe Delay After Lock' policy item applied.

I'm not aware of an 'out the box' method of seeing what IT Policy items are applied on the handheld itself.

The suggestion I made, was to save you having to build another BES.

Unfortunately there is not a solution available as long as you have a password configured as the "wipe on 10 failed authentications" is hard coded within the device firmware.

Thanks all who have written
