I'm hoping someone can fill in the blanks for me here. I admin a BES for Exchange for a client, a small scale office. They have several users existing on the BES, all of which is working and just background info, not really important to the issue at hand.
They have acquired a new employee who owns their own BB, and is currently using the desktop redirector software, therefore has a bunch of information on the device they don't want to lose. They want to make use of the BES in the environment, however, and have also already purchased a CAL for the BES. The user has not been using an email address within the organization till now.
The question is, what happens (if anything) to the data on the device when I go through the Enterprise Activation for the BES? If it gets wiped, does anyone have a good suggestion on how to retain the data somehow, for instance via a backup to PST through Outlook then importing that data to Exchange?
You can use the Desktop Manager to backup the BlackBerry. If you don't perform a wipe and add the users to the BES nothing happens to the data on the BlackBerry. BES services will just be added.
To be clear email/sms/call logs are not store on the BlackBerry forever. This data type will get deleted over time because the device memory is limited.
