Thread crapper!

If you've upgraded to SP1 and your BES is working ... you should donate to the Christmas Curve Giveaway ... besides; why not?!?!?

Did you install MR4 as a user different than your BES Admin?

How far off the latest release is BES 4.1.4.12 for MS Exchange?

Any key features missing vs earlier releases?

4.1.4 is the latest major releases; only Maintenance Releases have been published since ... which are effectively packs of hot fixes jumbled into one.

MR4 is latest release for Exchange. You can download from here ... documentation is there too.

We just upgraded from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007 sp 1
BES from 4.1.3 to 4.1.4 MR 4
Desktop client Outlook 2003 sp3
BB units: 7250, 7130e, 8703e and 8830e
Providers: Alltel & Verizon

We are having an intermittent problem of some users who have been moved from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007 will create an appointment on the BB but it will not not sync to the Outlook. They can synch a new contact from the BB to OL, but not a new appointment on the BB to OL. They can go to their OL and synch an appointment to the BB. Wireless settings are enabled. It is not happening to all users. Has anyone else seen this?

Default BES4.1.4 MR4 Out of office not working with Exchange 2007 SP1 - 01-14-2008, 04:30 PM

Hi all,

We migrated all of our users from 2003 to 2007 base install, BES was running on 4.1.3 and everything was working fine. After installing 2007 SP1, the Out of Office (OOF) messages are not working correctly.

If the OOF is set from an Outlook 2003 client, it will not sync with the Blackberry.

If the OOF is set from the Blackberry, it will update the Outlook 2003 OOF message once only. If you try to change the OOF on either the Blackberry or Outlook 2003 client, the new message is disregarded and recipients only see the old OOF message.

If we then go into webmail for that user on 2007 we see the old OOF. If the OOF is deleted from the 2007 webmail and a new OOF is set from the Blackberry, then it will use the new message.

It seems as though 2007 captures the OOF and does not update it when it is updated on the 2003 client or Blackberry device.

It is only happening for our Blackberry users, everyone else migrated to 2007 using the 2003 client have no issues with the OOF.

I have contacted RIM, they said that it seems to be SP1 which is the cause of the issue, however they cannot confirm it as they are still testing the effects of SP1 and BES 4.1.4.

Next step is to contact microsoft.

I will let you know if I come up with anything.

Has anyone else had this issue? All of those who say you are running fine, are you able to check your OOF functionality with a Blackberry device and an Outlook 2003 client.

Cheers,
Alex

ac80, we have the same issue, the only difference is we have not installed SP1 yet, so I am concerned by the comment from t-support. We are testing in our Qual environment and not making any headway.

Thanks for posting and good luck.

Hi hrprice,

Thanks for the confirmation that we aren't the only ones with this problem. I need to correct my previous statement, I believe that the OOF issue was happening with the 2007 base install, even before SP1.

As I said, I will call MS today and see if they can shed any light on the issue.

Have you tried installing an Outlook 2007 client and setting OOF from there and see if the problem still occurs?

Cheers.

We are not at that point yet but it may force the issue. I will try this week to get it installed on one of my units for testing, hopefully there will be a fix before the rest of my 900 users are migrated to Exchange 2007.

Thanks again for keeping this going.

Alex, would love to take with out offline, so please be in touch.

At 2 of my client sites, I'm seeing the same results. Exchange 2007 SP1 + BES 4.1.3 (or 4.1.4)

1 client is a migration from Ex2003; other client is a brand, new clean install of Exchange 2007 and BES.

Same exact issues as you, after 15-20 mins, all OOF functionality ceases, ONLY with BES/Exch2007 users. This is from a fellow peer who is encountering the same issue and we're trying to get support:

"RIM’s development team has reproduced the issue and have identified the problem. The situation is that 2003 only had one OOF setting (flag), and with 2007 there are 2 flags. The change to separate Internal and External OOF’s is what is causing the BES server to break this setting.

Now that the problem is reproducible, the issue has been assigned a SDR (Software Development Request) ticket number: 145355. It’s an internal number so we can’t call in and get an update on the ticket, its just to let us know they are working on it."

Please let me know if anyone has any work arounds, such as disabling the functionality of OOF on the BB/BES or something.

Thanks,
-Will

Default Upgrade procedure for me - 01-16-2008, 09:57 AM

There is no in place upgrade from EX 2003 to 2007. I purchased a new server with WS2003 R2 64 bit and installed Ex 2k7 and installed SP1 into the same OU as 2k3. Followed migration procedures from msexchange.org Transitioning from Exchange 2000/2003 to Exchange Server 2007 (Part 1)I then changed the mapi profile on my BES 4.1.4 server to connect to the 2k7sp1 server. I have not tested the OOO from the BB, though when I set it from Outlook 2k3 it seems to work fine. I will test it again though. I have only been away from the office a couple of times.

Smile BES 4.1.4 and MR4 working fine - 01-19-2008, 10:00 AM

I just wish to post a message, and say, that as a result of reading this forum, I felt confident enough to upgrade to Exchange 2007 SP1 with the BES 4.1.4 MR4 release. I did so today, and everything is working fine. Thanks for the great forum!

Hi all,

Thought I would give you an update regarding the OOF issue. MS came back with the following response:

This issue (together with “Two OOF messages received when Outlook 2003 creates OOF rule”) is a confirmed bug in Exchange 2007 and it is supposed to be fixed in Exchange 2007 SP1.

MS are working with their Global tech support to find an answer.

Cheers,
Alex

Default Not Fun - 01-21-2008, 07:12 PM

Just installed BES about 5 days ago, everything was hunky dory untill I installed SP1. Since its so new no one has really run into enuf problems to post about it.

Im stuck, I installed SP1 on both my BES server and Exchange Server but they are still out of sync. I can tell because my BES server is not getting any pending message or queued messages, so its completely out communication with exchange. And I checked all the permissions, they were still retained after the upgrade.

What am I missing? I have BES SP4 with the latest MR 4 off BB.com

Is everyone having this problem? Have you restarted the BES since you've applied Exchange 2007 SP1? What components do you have installed on the BES? Which installation guide did you follow?

We have restarted our BES several times to install Windows updates.

One thing that is different, is I did not install Exchange 2007 at all on our BES. Instead opted for the Microsoft CDO 1.2.1.

What other problems are you running into? Not using the CDO's may be the problem as there is no longer a need for Exchange on the BES.

Download it from here: Sorry, I don't remember which one you need. If I had to guess, its the MAPI Client and Exchange CDO 1.2.1. Just open Mail in Control Panel and configure it like you would Outlook.

Exchange CDO 1.2.1
Download details: Collaboration Data Objects, version 1.2.1

MAPI Client and Exchange CDO 1.2.1 here
Download details: Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1

Also, When you installed SP1 on the BES and Exchange 2007 server, did you install any other updates? The latest Service Pack for Server 2003 includes an incompatibility with older Broadcom network drivers and requires TCP Chimney's to be disabled or the latest driver to be installed. Some (not all) of your users may experience problems using Outlook to connect. Check and see if you are using Broadcom NIC's in both the BES and Exchange 2007 server. This could be causing your sync issues.

And

Some Exchange 2007 servers may not be releasing memory and require a hotfix due to an issue with Windows Server 2003, .NET Framework 2.0 and Exchange 2007 SP1 together. If your server is thrashing the disk and/or using all available ram this may be your problem. If you can reboot the Exchange 2007 server and your problems sycning are solved temporarily, then this is your problem.

Of course I restarted both machines. BES is having issues connecting to Exchange but I cant figure out why. All the permissions are set, I followed the blackberry.com installtion guide.

So maybe I should uninstall exchange and use CDO.dll? I have both installed.

That is weird. I am indeed running 1.2.1, but it isn't that December 2007 release. Mine is from December 2006.

I dunno why it asks for Outlook at all.

Download mine. I just tried it, and it installs fine.

yeah the orignial link you gave me was without MAPI. So im going back at this not from the begining but to try and fix the connector. I installed outlook, that was quite stupid because i thought i would need it for CDO to be installed. Dumb dont do it. I got to now delete all MAPI32.dll's with BES stopped and reinstall ExchangeMapiCdo.msi. I was using exchange 2007 management before to connect, i think. So I got that uninstalled. Hopefully I will be able to install the MAPI and CDO, and get them to work with BES. I guess Exchange Management work with BES untill SP1. Ill keep you guys updated. I was dying for SP1 update but not so much after this BES inciddent. Luckly I just installed BES and we have three users, one is me. So only two poeple are affected.

Back in a few restarts

Okay everythings back to normals. MAPI and CDO did the trick.

Here is a recapp just incase someone else runs into this problem. MS Exchange Management tools worked untill SP1 , then it stopped even after I installed SP1 on my BES and Exchange boxes.

I had stop all BES services and delete mapi, since i think it was created by MS Management tools. Then install MAPI and Cdo, in the above link or get it from M$. I also installed SP 4 MR 4 from BB, make sure you install this on your BEsadmin account, i forgot and did it under administrator had to re assign all the logon as accounts for my BES services.

All and all its working again, not too much down time for not knowing too much. This is my first BES install. 3 Users, 321 pending message.

I suggest keeping this sticky. Anyone can email me PM me if they need some help related to this but i might not be much help.

Thanks guys, I would have had to call BB support line unless i stubled apon this post/forum.

Take it easy vhato

I find sites such as these too when its dark outside, everyone is home with their families, and your tired and lonely trying to solve what feels like the worlds problems.

For reference...which CDO download worked? My old 1.2.1 or the new 1.2.1 from Microsoft?

Glad you are back up and running!

Yeah I felt like my eyes were bleeding after 4 hours of searching for answers, "I swear someone else has this problem, I knew it was too soon to upgrade"

hey, here is a keyword for a search engine

Default Calendring issues - 01-30-2008, 12:52 PM

Hello all,

We installed three exchange 2007 servers with sp1. One is the Hub Transport the other two in a CCR setup.

We migrated 5 accounts to the new exchange 2007 servers for testing. I am one of those users.

Our bes is patched with 4.1.4.15.

After migrating our accounts to the new server we can send and receive email but no other syncing is working (calendering, contacts, etc.)

We did not do anything with our BES server. It still has the Exchange 2003 System Manager with SP2 on it.

I want to make sure I understand the document correct. I need to upgrade my Exchange 2003 systems manager to Exchange 2007 with sp1. My bes server isnt a 64 bit server...is there a way around this?

Also, we wanted to move users over slowly. Can I still leave BB users on their original 2003 mailbox servers and will their bb's function properly or will I need to move them all over to the 2007 servers?

Any help or insight would be so much appreciated.

Patrick

Default Hope this helps - 01-30-2008, 12:58 PM

You need to remove the Exchange manager from your BES server and install the application I installed two post prior. It replaces the exchange system manager for 2007.

BES controls 2003 via Exchange System Manager

BES controls 2007 via Colloboration and MAPI

The new API is necessary to get all the information out of the information store, thats most likely why you are only syncing emails.

Once you get it up and running just move them over.

Your best bet, is really to have two BES servers running, one for 2003 and one for 2007, if u need to make the swap without anyone noticing. Depends on how many calls your going to get. But the sync should work instantly once u get the new API installed. So they might not be able to send and receive for about 20 mins if you do it right.

I would, since I don't have the time to mess around is really just get the BES working for 2007 and migrate everyone over. 2003 is a piece of junk compared to 2007

Otherwise, like i said, update your bes to use Download details: Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1

but make sure you remove the exchange 2003 componets first then restart.
you will need to hunt down the CDO.dll & MAPI.dlls if it exists and delete it after a restart so that the CDO and MAPI one is installed, they usually lurk in the system32 dir.
the 2007 exchange manager does not work with BES in a 2007 enviroment, I have already tried it.

Funny thing is that RIM has one doc that says to install either 2003 Sys manager or CDO, and another that says to remove the 2003 Sys manager and only use the CDO.

Use System Manager
Remove System Manager

Gotta love contradicting instructions. BTW, running the latest BES for Exchange. Installed a new Exchange 2007 SP1 server three weeks ago, followed the second guide above, and then moved the mailboxes. No issues yet.

The docs are indeed different but they do address two different scenarios; but I agree ... RIM does need to clean up the knowledgebase A LOT.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 6.12) Sprint:PPC6800)

yeah that's what I think screwed me up during my SP1 upgrade. CDO and MAPI is the best way to go, its much more lightwieght than installing a full system manager. Been up for a while, 5 users no problems

While most functions are working, we are having issues with OOF where it stops sending a message after about 20 minutes. See this post for more info http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-...ge-2007-a.html

I have a quickfix from RIM (development and escalated support). According to Bechard (my guinea pig), he's installed it and has been having successful results with the OOF/Exchange 2007 SP1 issue.

So far so good, we've rolled it out on the live system and as WillFulmer stated it is working as expected. No duplicates and after 20minutes or longer the OOF is still working (internally and externally).

If anyone has questions just let me know.
