Questions regarding moving to new ex server: ex2k > ex2k3
I've brought a new email server online, ex2k3, to migrate my ex2k users to.
My BES is on win2k3 server,
All of my users but bb users have been moved. I moved myself as a test. The bes saw the server change, but the email's weren't syncing.
If I remember correctly, I will need to patch my BES to the same level as the new ex2k3 server ( with the ex2k3 files ) correct?
If I do that before I move my bb users, will that effect their email syncing or is it going to be: Upgrade/patch BES > Move bb users NOW.
Anyone help me out? Am I missing anything?
Give this a look: Migrate from Exchange 2000 to 2003 in a BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.0 or 4.1 environment
Simply put you need to do the following:
1) Grant the BESAdmin account permissions on the new Exchange Server
2) Replace the Exchange MAPI / CDO components on BES with 2003 components, making sure it is at or above the patch level of your Exchange 2003 Server. You don't want to simply copy the files from Exchange, but rather install them much in the same way you did on your Exchange server.
3) Move the users (and run a handheldcleanup)
Is there a super secret way to remove the ex2k system management tools?
Whwn I go to add remove programs and select to remove it, I go through the steps and then I get an error code stating that it can't be removed.
Yes I am using domain admin credentials.
I found the issue. When removing the tools, it ask for the install source, which I assumed was the ex2k install disk, but in actuality it is the install soruce for the version of the tools that I isntalled, which was the sp3 version.
I thought about this after I left work last night, so I'll try it tomorrow.
good morning hdawg.
Well I finally got everything moved over. I did have to manually remove the old ex2k tools ( not too bad). Then changing the mapi profile, moving over the besadmin account and then my remaining 7 users.
The only question I have is that all blackberry users seem to be working fine, so do I still need to do handheld cleanup?
