Default BES + BIS + OTA Address Book sync - 12-11-2007, 05:26 PM

This may have been posted before but I couldn't track it down.

I need to have OTA address book sync capabilities across all the BB's in my department. Unfortunately, we don't use Exchange/Lotus/Novell for our email systems and the BES for MDS does not support OTA address book sync.

Is it possible to run a BES for Exchange/Lotus/Novell and still use BIS for email push and handle everything else (device provisioning, OTA address book sync etc.) through BES?

To have a BES, you require an existing email system, such as Exchange/Domino/GroupWise. If you don't have this in place, you can't use BES.

You might look to outsourcing some of your mail to a hosted Exchange/BES or Domino/BES provider ...

If i were you, i'd look more into "blackberry unite" than trying to figure out how to setup an email server and BES if you're going with the route you just mentioned.

We already have an email system in place it just doesn't happen to be one of those three (unfortunately). The BlackBerry Unite software doesn't seem to sync address book entries.

That is really the only feature we need right now. BIS is fine for email transfer with pin being fine for guaranteed messaging. We're just tired of the address books getting out of date and the manual process involved with updating them.

Seems unfortunate that this simple step so difficult.

BES works with popular enterprise messaging solutions ... unless you're running one of the big three; you're out of luck.

drop a note to these guys --> [email address] . What groupware system are you using? Does it do server-based PIM? Or is the server email-only? Not that is helps (see HDawg's post#7), I'm just morbidly curious.
