Thanks WillFulmer. I applied that fix about 4 hours ago (onto version 4.1.4 MR4) and everything seems to be working for me so far. Thanks again.

This fix worked perfectly for me and we are noe running it in production.

No problems as yet, but I'll post back if we get any issues.

After talking to a number of techs that completely denied the fix even exists I was able to get one for 4.1.5

If any one would like the files just PM me. I will try to check the messages every so often.

Here is my update:

I took a snapshot of my Blackberry server and installed MR4 and the hotfix from WillFulmer. I am testing it now on my account and I am able to get an Out Of Office message outside the organization. However, when I sent myself a test message I got it twice in the Inbox. Myabe it was a fluk or could be some side effects. I will continue to monitor the situation and see what develops.

I just encountered this problem. If I am correct, the current best available fix is to install 4.1.4 MR4 (not 4.1.5) and this hotfix, which Blackberry doesn't support. Can someone tell me how to get the fix? Is there a number applied to it to locate it easier?

Count me in as someone else experiencing this issue. About 550 BB users in an EX07SP1 (rollup1) environment. Just sent a corporate email to BB users on the problem and the workaround - set OOF within full Outlook client and check the OOF from within OWA as well.

Anxiously awaiting a supported fix from RIM.

4.1.4 MR4 fix worked for us although I did have to remove the existing OOF rules (2007 and legacy) from the users mailbox using MfcMapi before they would then sync correctly.

As said by other members if anyone needs the fix PM me with your email address and I can send it on.

Regards.

I am also having this issue, and am on Ex07 sp1 rollup2.

Waiting for the next release from Blackberry so this madness will stop....

My work around just has the user set their OOF from webmail in both the internal and external reply message as the same message.

Adding my comment to throw this back to the top.

I can't believe there are only 50 posts on this issue. Kind of seems to be a show stopper if you ask me!

This has halted our Exchange 2007 migration. My manager finally came down on me, asking to open a ticket with RIM (even though it's an apparent known issue to be fixed with SP5 MR1).

As with some of you, I contacted RIM support this morning. While the tech was very polite, he seemed completely unaware of an existing hot fix. He did mention Critical Advisory SDR 162722 (which I've seen), but the suggested work around does not work.

Livelink - Redirection

I really pushed him, asking for any test\beta hot fix they may currently have. He had me run the BBCheck.exe utility and send it to him. They're suppose to get back with me within 24 hrs.

Here's our environment -

Windows Server 2003
Ver 5.2 (Build 3790.srv03_sp2_gdr.070304-2240 : Service Pack 2)

Exchange 2003 - Version 6.5 (Build 7638.2: Service Pack 2)
Exchange 2007 - Version 8.1 (Build 240.6)

BES - Version 4.1.4 MR4 (Rollup) (Bundle 134)

MAPI32.DLL: 6.5.7888.0
CDO.DLL: 6.5.7888.0

Well since you are on the correct BES version for this "unoffical" patch that RIM is denying the existence of, feel free to PM me with your email address and I can send you the files to get OOA working. I installed it less than a month ago and so far no issues have surfaced. However, I am keeping my snapshot around just in case something does.

Do you guys also have the issue of not being able to change the out of office message with Outlook 2003? I am running Exchange 2007 SP1 as well as BES 4.1.4.26.

Thanks,
Frank

There are known issues ... this is just one example: OWA 2007, OUTLOOK 2003, EXCHANGE 2007 OOF PROBLEMS

We do but this is due to using a legacy mail client against Exchange 2007. We always recommend to users to use their OWA to set their out of office until we upgrade them to use Outlook 2007.

After getting approvals I was able to install the patch and can confirm it works. When I called rim I briefly explained my issue to the tech and said I wanted the patch that does not exist, he put me on hold and said I would receive it in a few days as it had to go through red tape. Then I received it like an hour later. It sounds like now if you call RIM they can get the patch for you... I asked the engineer who sent it to me if it would be in MR1 and he said yes.

I just called RIM and they told me that there is no hotfix available for this but that there is a software development request in for it and that it will be addressed in a future release. Perfect answer for an environment with a highly mobile user base

Thanks. I got the attachment. I should have clarified though. We are currently at version 4.1.4 MR4 if anyone has that patch I would greatly appreciate it.

Those of you on 4.1.4 MR4 (Rollup) (Bundle 134), you should be able to contact RIM, state the severity of your issue and request the following two patch files -
BlackberryAgent.exe
BlackberryAgent.pdb
These two files, provided by RIM, resolved my issue (see my earlier post).

I don't know about you guys, but I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to applying change to my BES. I highly recommend you get the files from RIM and not be passing around files. I'm pretty sure RIM would be less then 100% helpful if your BES tanked after applying patches not provided by them.

Additionally, how else will they know to what degree this issue has impacted our messaging systems.

Good points all around. I tend to be paranoid as well. I keep smacking myself for installing 4.1.5 because I am now stuck until they release the fix for it. I do not feel like reverting either the BES software or Exchange. I am about to setup a 2003 exchange server just for those who may be going on vacation soon.

If anyone hears anything about a fix for 4.1.5 or when the MR1 is going to be released please post it here as I am sure I am not the only one looking for it.

There I vented ... feel better

Oh, but we did. They said such patch does not exist nor is there an ETA for one and that this issue only happens when users set their OOF on their handheld! This is patently untrue as 90% of the users affected don't even know how to set their OOF on their device. I have the issue too and it would never occur to me to set my OOF on a handheld either.

If any kind soul has the files for 4.1.4 mr4 and could send them to acelera at mac dot com, that would be great.

Thanks again

If you need a hotfix / patch you should be calling RIM.

Distributing a patch RIM provides you is a violation of the software agreement you've agreed too ... and it might end up causing more damage than good.

I would recommend stop requesting any patch and calling RIM yourself. If you don't have TSupport, now would be the time to get it.

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE CALL RIM FOR SUPPORT. Don't ask here for a patch from someone that shouldn't be giving to you.

Just got off the phone with RIM. They first told me they could not give me the fix as it is still in development. I told the tech we were in dire need of it and a beta copy was fine with me. He then got some company info along with software versions etc. from me, and told me it had to be approved first. He also stated the hotfix would be officially released in a week or so. I am currently waiting to find out if i was approved for the beta release of the hotfix. He did stress that if I recieve a copy of the hotfix, that it was for me alone, and was not to be given out. I reccommend calling RIM if you haven't already.

At least you were able to get a tech to acknowledge they at least do have a patch. When I called about it they said there was no patch and I had to wait until development had their 2007 environment complete and could begin working on the patch. I was given a late Q4 potential release date when I spoke with them on the phone.

The answer from the RIM support was:

'The out of office reply is not a supported function on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server when using Microsoft Exchange 2007. This is why it's not working properly for your customer.'

So we still don't have a fix for 4.1.4 MR4.

I still hope for a message on fritz (dot) schlapbach (at) gmail (dot) com

Many thanks
