Default BES Domino - Reboot resets HH contact?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all -

I noticed that a maintenance reboot of my Domino BES server reset all the handheld last-contact times to the time of the reboot. Is that normal due to the state databases being processed in some way (probably when the server does a database consistency check)?

TIA
John

Yes the last handheld contact time is the BES Server being able to reach out / ping the devices to ensure all are online, able to route messages to and from the handheld, etc.

This is not when the bes does a consistency check but when the BES is back online. Yes the State DB plays a huge part for the device to be able to send and receive messages / processing.....the consistency check is a separate domino side process when the server has not been shutdown properly or when the server was going thru a shutdown, some db's were in use and did not release properly.

I have seen this before and questioned it as well.

So it's a kind of misnomer - it's not the last time the handheld WAS contacted, but the last time the server attempted contact?

Yes the last time the server is able to make contact with the handheld to inform the admin that this handheld is working and receiving email in a timely manner.

Yes it is the last time the handheld was succesfully contact ie email was sent to the device / email got fwded to it = a contact made....it would go the same as BES Server polling the mailbox and then reporting it back to the handheld.

Hi John, I have seen this before as well. It appears to be a bug in that it reports successful communication not with the handheld, but with internal BES components regardless of handheld status. I just put up a blog post about it here:

I had a unit that was lost New Year's Eve (nobody told me until yesterday), and my logs consistently show that last contact was 12/31 right up until I rebooted the server this past Monday, so I wonder if it's timestamping correctly except at the restart of services. Either way, it would appear to be something that needs fixing.
