BES admin nOOb here
I have successfully moved 3 users to a 8100 Pearl, all i did was pick úser reload>Set a new activation password>reactivated the BB hand held.
Now on to the 4th unit and it just won't activate, using the same procedure.I've wiped the HH to make sure and still no change. I'd rather not delete and recreate the user, but if that's all i'm left with then i will.
BES 4.1.3.18.
Any ideas??

Could be a device issue. Can you send/receive PIN messages to/from the new device?

I've never done the reload for a new device for an existing user. Just set the activation password and activate.....

I swapped units too and same result.


Did not try to send/receive PIN messages to/from the new device, till i find more info i've given back the old model and user is still working with it as normal.
I picked up the user reload idea from a Google-so far Google hasn't found me an answer.

Clear the pending messages queue for this user, delete the dekstop [sync] service book and re-provision the handheld.

On your BlackBerry Server Manager (Start-Programs-BlackBerry Enterprise Server-BlackBerry Server Manager),

1. Click the Server name on the left side and highlight the username on the right side.

2. On the bottom half of the screen, the last option, expand it and it says purge pending messages.

3. Delete the service book Desktop [SYNC] from the handheld.

4. Plug in the device via usb or set an email for activation and provision the device.

No Service Books in the unit to delete.

ok that is a possibility, did it work?

I'm trying again as i type, not confident though..

Still not working so i deleted the user and then added user to BES tostart again.
Activation still not working...

what is the data coverage indicator show on the BB?
when i have this problem thats usually what it is

and are you moving their existing SIM card across from the current device - if not then the carrier has either (a) not activated new sim card or (b) it's not on the correct plan (if new mobile numbers are being issued!)

Same SIM, same phone #, just new 8100 handheld.
It is giving me 'Server Not responding' but that's not true as i'm sitting here working with it.

what does the data coverage indicate?
Should show just to the left of the signal bars on the main screen.

I've got in capitals GPRS which is what it needs to be?

GPRS, Re-created user, using bes manager to provision, not activating....something doesnt add up.

Why not start fresh being-perform a backup of the handheld and do a wipe. try provisioning and then do a restore of only the key items, sms, messages, address book, to do, etc.

I emailed Vodafone about my problem and i don't know what they did, but not long after that it activated.
I'll see if i can find out more.

Sounds like the DATA plan from the provider was incorrect. I have run into that many many times.

why dont you want to remove/readd the user?
