Default Migrating BES to New Domain/Exc Org on Same Hardware

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

Hope you can help? I had a look at the knife edge and phased migration threads but couldn't find an answer for my specific question.

I am working on a Domain Migration project that may involve having to migrate the existing BES server to a new domain on the existing hardware.

I understand I cannot simply change the domain membership of my BES but wondered if you can clarify if I am correct in my understanding of the rest of the process?

I presume I will need to uninstall BES and the DB from the BES server, change the servers domain membership and reinstall and reconfigure BES using a new service account in the new domain/exc org?

Is uninstalling and re installing on the same hardware going to be problematic - ie will the uninstall leave traces that will cause problems on the re install?

If I can confirm that this might cause problems I may be able to get additional hardware in order to perform a phased migration (my preferred option), but at present I'm being accused of worrying about nothing.

Thanks

Paul

Where you will be going to a new Exchange Org you will need to start from scratch. You will have to re-install the BES with a new DB and re-activate all the users.

If you were just adding a new domain then it wouldn't matter as long as permissions and trusts are configured properly between domains. A BES DB can only work in the Org it was installed in. There are no scripts or modifications that will make it work that I am aware of.

So create a new BESAdmin account, set Exchange and local permissions (local admin, etc.), install the Exchange System Manager and then the BES.

Hope that clarifies things.

Thanks for the clarification.

My other question was

Is uninstalling the software and re installing on the same hardware going to be problematic - ie will the uninstall leave traces that will cause problems on the re install?

Thanks

Shouldn't be an issue, just do a clean uninstall of the BES:

BlackBerry Search Results

This will remove all traces of the BES from the system, including reg keys.

Let us know if you have any other questions and good luck with the migration!

If you are migrating to a different Exchange Organization you will need to re-active every user. There is no migration path for this.
