Default Domino R8 and BB

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

Does BB support the new Domino R8 ?

And in the R8(R6.5 and upwards) mail design there is a hidden view with the contacts to be used in web-mail/Inotes but is it possible for the BB to get the contact's there instead? Right now we have upgrade users to be roaming users, to be able to synchronize the contacts.

Thank U up front

Regards Duke59

Yes. Domino & Notes 8 will run with the Blackberry BES environment. There has been a change in Notes 8 to synch the local address book into the users Mail file on each replication. (Set in Preferences/Contacts) So changes to the local contact list will automatically synch OTA with the BB clients. Journal entries to Memos is still a manual process through Domino Web Access tab in the Notes 8 client.

We have a dedicated Domino server for our BB on that server the BBserver is also installed, it is here we configure the BB clients, but in that gui we have point out where the address is (Serverename/Roaming/Shorname/Names.nsf), do we just point it to the user's mailbox instead

If Yes hoe does "it" no what view to look in?

Why not use server copy of the address books, which can be a folder added on your mail server. Point the PIM on BES for each user to sync to the server copy add book and set up a local replication for each user. This way, eliminates the fact that the user will need a contact info when he / she is out of the office and forgot to sync.

This is what we are doing today we are using the roaming setup, but the problem is that Domino R8 does not support Roaming at this point, so we have to find other ways.

We tested the setup yesterday where we on the BB server pointed it to look in the mail database instead off roaming/shorname/names.nsf, and it worked like a charm, we wil now try to do this on the next completly new BB user we get in.

The idea I was stating is not roaming, its simply local replica replicates with server replica--the user will just have to update the address book locally or on their BB and not have to update inotes. There is also a code for inotes to update as soon as you login to notes. If someone has 1000+ contacts this may take an extra minute or so.

From Local copy of names.nsf, create replica to server. Set the replication on client to 30 mins. Everytime a user updates his / her address book, it syncs to the server copy in 30mins. On the PIM Sync of the BES Server for that user, enter the path of the server copy and file name: ie Foldername\usersnab.nsf.

Its also good practice to have server copy of the address book on the server esp when you have custom connections and locations....

as for the notes login script, this was a custom built script, which your developer can do. When you login to notes, it will sync with inotes automatically.

Jep That would work, but i have about 300+ BB users and growing, so i will prefer, the other solution where the contacts are placed in the mail file, in the R8 client there is a default synchronizing off the contacts on the replication pane.
