Default View Webpage on network from BlackBerry - 01-17-2008, 11:45 AM

Hi everybody, I work with the Town of Vernon and we just go over 20 BlackBerry 8820's in. My problem is that we have a work order system up and running that we want the users of the BlackBerries to see. It is hosted on a server with in our network, so what combination of software with the BES would I use to accomplish this, if it is even possible.

Thank you to anybody who can help me.

Are you a Domino org? Is the work order system a notes DB?

If not, please give a little detail about your mail platform and what system you are trying to connect to...

Uhm, to be honest, I have no idea what that is, we got these in like 2 days ago and my boss just wanted to see if it could be done. Right now, the Work Order System is set up to email the people with BlackBerries, I assume that those get forwarded to the phone, so it would be nice for the users to be able to view this Work Order system as it is a web app written in perl.

OK, a web app in perl - 'tis useful it's a web app. Should be possible to use it on BB by utilising MDS.

Lots of if's and but's (what mail platform are you, what version of BES, has full MDS been installed?)

Hard to give a definitive YES or NO without a bit more info...

As of right now, we have BES 4.1.4 with MDS installed and we are using MS Exchange 2003

Is the web-app published externally (internet)?

If yes, have you tried accessing it via the BB browser and the app's external URL?

If no (i.e. internal app) have you tried using the BB browser to access the app's internal URL (i.e. http://servername/dbname)?

I can access and use it just fine when I am on the wifi here at work. Should I try and shut the wifi radio off and just use the BB browser to see if I can see it?

Based on this article, you should be able to get to it as long as you're using BES and the BlackBerry Browser, since that apparently funnels traffic from the Blackberry to your BES then to its destination (intranet or internet).

The question is going to be whether you can get name resolution and the like; I suspect you'll be able to do so. If not, you might try going to the IP of the intranet server - depending on how the web server is configured, that may or may not work. I'm not going to get into the intricacies of how that's configured unless you can at least get an error message back from it.

You'll probably need to add a bookmark in the Blackberry browser for it and specify which browser mode to use as part of the bookmark (assuming that yours are similar to the Curve's behavior)

Thank you for the response everyone, now after looking at it, and seeing everything is set up properly, I can now view my work order system through the BES just fine.

Thanks again,
