Default Reload Server

Please Login to Remove!

Having an issue.

i had a server configured with 2 drive. Boot + Data. i had the BES server program loaded on the data drive. Long story short Data drive is dead.

What i want to do is reload the BES onto the boot drive now. When i click the setup program from the CD it basicly does nothing. i see a proccessor spike for a second and then nothing. i dont see anything in the event logs....

anyone have an idea. im guessing that i may need to remove a reg key or something to fool the CD into thinking this is a new install???

anyone have any thoughts???

Have you performed a clean reboot? I do not think its a registry issue per say.

What if you copy the software local to the drive and run if off there?

To confirm....you are doing a clean install and migrating the data to run off the new drive?

Ensure all the data is backed up somewhere else + the sql db and remove any entries that could cause a conflict during the install.

Do you have a backup of the server from the previous night?

Domino OR Exchange?

It may be time to create to a BES DR Server or invest in a 3rd party app for failover.

Clean reboot...

Yes.

Data drive has failed so i took that offline

I have copied the install CD to the local drive and tried to install without luck

Data is back up on remote server

And im sorry i should have mentioned it..... Exchange Server 2003 latest patches

Everything was working fine until the drive failure on the BES. We plan on probably upgrading to a different machine in the future sometime i would just like to get it backup and running for the time being.....

Anyone else have questions. i will be monitoring the post until i get a resolution....

Local admin rights on the server? What if you right click and select "run as", and enter your local admin / domain admin credentials?

It is odd it wont let you run anything on the cd or locally...When you click on the setup.exe, what does the process manager load?

I cant upload it because its too big but try looking for Process Explorer, this gives you a detailed overview and perhaps kill the whole process tree. This is a good utility for server proceeses and managing and monitoring.

OK when i click the setup.exe it shows in the process tree for about 1 to 2 seconds.

After playing with the util i see that it color codes based on what the program is doing. what i see is the programs starts and then shuts down within 2 seconds.

Does anyone know if this setup programs writes a log file and where that may be located???

Nothing shows in the event logs of the machine????

I am still thinking that it may be an issue with when you run setup it checks for a REg key to see if it is already installed. and if so it stops running....
