Default Blackberry and Unifed Messaging

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All!

We have a Mitel phone system with unified messaging capabilities. Most of our users have this setup to email them whenever they get a voicemail left on their phone.

(This message comes to them in a .WAV format inside the email.)

Ever since i have taken over as BES admin here i have never gotten one of these emails on my BB. Other users have claimed to have gotten them before though could never listen to them since their BB couldn't play .WAV files. We now have a couple of users that have the new BB Curve and with the 4.2 OS you can play .WAV files on your BB.

Is there a reason why the Blackberry service would ignore these emails and not forward them to our BB handhelds? It doesn't seem to do this to any other emails, just the unifed messaging emails.

Are you using Domino, Exchange, or GroupWise. How does the Mitel phone system send email messages to mailboxes? ... e.g. what protocol

Using the BlackBerry Server Configuration utility test if the attachment service can convert a WAV file. If it can then it's an issue with how the Mitel software is encoding the WAV or how it's sending it.

You can also take an email that someone got and have them send it to you with the WAV attachment to see if your BB can open/play it.

We are using Exchange.

As to how the messages are sent from the Mitel system, i will have to investigate and get back to you on. I believe the Mitel messaging connects to our email system via IMAP and sends the email to the appropriate mailbox.

I have found the BlackBerry Server Configuration utility but i don't really know how to use it to test the .WAV file. Could you give me some more instuctions?

This is what i do know after testing a little bit:

If the message is sent from the Mitel system it doesn't show on the BB. If i forward the message to my self from Outlook or save the attachment and attach it in a new mail message and send it to my self from Outlook, it shows on my BB.

And yes, any .WAV file i recieve in an attachment i can play from my BB.

Therein lies the problem. Look to see if you can configure the application to use either MAPI or send an SMTP message.

Is the BES not able to handle messages sent via IMAP?

Contact Mitel for a fix and/or an explanation on incompatibility. There is a fix/workaround for some of their systems. This will not be a change you'll need to make on the Exchange or BES environments.

IMAP is a client protocol; which uses SMTP to send. If they're doing some form of IMAP injection indeed the BES would not see this message.

This is bad; the vendor should have a work around for you as jibi indicated.

Correct. Look at the message headers of one of these messages. You'll see that it never touches an Exchange server, thus the interface between BES and Exchange is never initiated and the message is not detected to be sent to the device.

I haven't talked to my Mitel support reps on this yet but it does appear that Mitel will have a fix for this. I did some searching on Google and found these forum discussions:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-...y-s-inbox.html
Mitel User Group Forums : User Group : 6510 : Blackberry Server
Getting IMAP messages into your Blackberry - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

I will update you when i get the fix because none of the other forums provide what exactly the solution is.

I originally made this post http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-...y-s-inbox.html but that thread is closed, so i'll reply to this one.

Mitel, after a number of false starts, has release updates to the messaging server and 3300 pbx which will in fact get the voicemail onto a blackberry via the BES. We had it installed a few weeks ago and it works like a champ. Talk to your vendor.

Thanks for your feedback, we will see how things go for us. We are upgrading our Mitel phone system this Saturday 5/17. Everything is getting updated, PBX, Voicemail server, Ops Manager, we should be working the same way after the upgrade. I will post a reply next week to see how things go.

Our Mitel vendor installed it so I dont have specifics on the actual file. It works like a champ though.

Same goes for us, and i concur it works great. Now the next fix is getting my blackberry to handle permanently deleted mail items better.

Did your mitel vendor install additional software or just edit the settings on the server? This is just so frustrating as I know everything I need to set this up is right in front of me. Also, do you know what versions you are running on your 6510 nad your 3300?
