Im running BES 4.1.4.26 and have followed all of the limited instructions for installing the Collaboration Service. However, when I click on it the staus is balnk and under common tasks there are no options to start the service.

Also the service is not appearing in windows services.

Am I missing something major here? or doing something wrong when I installed it?

It looks installed - just not running.
Also I can't see the BBIM log so I am led to believe that it can't be installed!

Did you run the setup program? It sounds like you created the object but did not install the software.

which setup program would that be then?
I went through the install of the main package and chose to install the im connector. It wanted a reboot and then did some more configuration.

Is there another setup I need to run? If so where would I get it from?

After you installed the Collaboration Service, did you stop and restart the BES? It should pick up and start running when you do.

(And to think that I PAY for T-Support from RIM so they can tell me to "Reboot your BES." You get it for free. )

Yes I've restarted all of the services and the whole box since its still showing as no status and not showing up in the services list in windows.

Can you post a screen shot of the Collab properties window? (like the thumbnail?)

No domain name listed. Guessing LCS/Office Communicator is correct. Never worked with it before.

Yes LCS is correct - from what I've read the domain name is only for ease of use on the client so you don have to put in

How would I re-install the service? just by running the main setup.exe? or is there a seperate install?

I've look ing the BES isntall directory and BIM and in the BIN directory there is a BCOL.exe and the command switches offer you to install the service but this fails with creating service failed.

Not really sure if you run the setup.exe again you will get the options to select components. Have you tried calling RIM?

We're still waiting on our RIM support as per usual there seems to be some admin 'mess-up' somewhere along the line.

If you are installing the collaboration service on the same machine as the BES, then you would need to "re-install" the BES. No, worries there. Just start the setup program again, choose BES from your left list and LCS/Office Communicator from the list on the right, and then use all the default settings and the same database and you should be ok.

Yes thats how I got it to this state - I ran the setup and kept all the defaults - it just doesnt seem to install it properly.
Might give it another whirl but was just seeing if anyone had any other ways of getting this service installed/started as I have seem some command stuff i.e. with the BCOL if thats anything to do with it?
