Default Curve on a BES...HELP!

Please Login to Remove!

Meant Pearl, not Curve on the Subject!

Hello All,

I work for a medium sized, not so tech savvy company. We have just integrated a BES in with our mobile communications department. Much to my chagrin, I have been put in charge of getting all of our Blackberrys up and running. We have eight 8820s that I was successfully able to integrate, however, one of our employees has a Curve.

The formatting of the mail set up is almost identical to the 8820 except for one crucial input field which is not available. There is no place to put the domain name in the e-mail set up.

With the 8820 you have a field for the e-mail address, a field for the activation password, and a field for the domain name. With the 8100 (Pearl), however, there is no field for the domain and I can't get the thing to sync.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I worked on it for several hours yesterday and am trying to avoid making the $250 call to RIM for tech support.

Thanks for your help.

Goosteady... welcome to the BBForums. Yes, someone will have help for you (just not me!).

I'm moving this to the BES Admin's section so the right brains will see it.

I've never had to use the domain name to start the Enterprise Activation. Jus the email address and password should be sufficient.

Is the activation not working?

Default Activation

Yes,

I am having problems activating. The phone says "Activating..." and then remains there. The Blackberry Manager on the server just says "Initializing" and stays that way.

Make sure the account is provisioned correctly ie. data service. Can you message another BB via Pin2Pin?

If you mean does the phone have a data plan with it, yes. He is able to surf the internet and receive e-mail from yahoo. I'm not sure how to do a Pin2Pin message, as I've never done it before.

That could mean that the data plan is personal BlackBerry (BIS) and not corporate BlackBerry (BES). You need to 100% confirm with the network that the SIM is provisioned for corporate BB data

Thanks. I will have the employee check with his provider to see which he has.

You don't need to pay RIM $250 as well. Just call the carrier and get them to transfer you to RIM. They don't support BES so you should get transferred pretty quick.

More a case of is the account provisioned for BES, different to a generic data plan.

I see i was beaten to it by others.

you don't need to put in the domain. Definitely check to see if the user has a BB data plan. It is different from your regular data plan and your service provider doesn't always enable the BB data plan on the phone. You will have to call them to make sure that you actually have the BB data plan.

Another possbility is that the ETP message for activation is being spam-filtered out on for that particular user. Have you tried to activate the device with a different user? Heck, it might even be a mail file problem and not a device problem.

Have you tried to activate it with the desktop manager instead of OTA?
