Default New Server Hardware Cut-Over Project

Please Login to Remove!

Currently:
Win2K server
Domino v 6.5.4
BES v 4.0.7 MR2
165 Users
Using MSDE (not SQL)
Runs like a champ...no problems, no issues.

Issue:
*The server hardware is comming off warranty. Must cut over to new server hardware*

Plan Options:
1. Upgrade to 4.1 SP4 MR3 on existing hardware, then cut over to new server.
or
2. Cut over while on 4.0.7 MR2 - having 4.0.7 MR2 on new box.

Variable:
I am considering using VMWare ESX 3.0.1 as the new server.

Now, I don't want to introduce too many new factors...
Plus, I am a little skittish of KB14918
(BlackBerry Search Results)

Thoughts? Opinions?
Thanks!

Either path will work and have their own risks. Personally, I would do Option 1 because I rather have a fresh install on the new hardware rather than an upgrade.

Go with the spork-edge cutover.
Upgrade to 4.1 SP4 MR3 on existing hardware, then cut over to new server which will also have 4.1 SP4 MR3.

Easiest way is to copy the BESMgmt.ldf & BESMgmt.mdf from OldBES to NewBES.

I had your concern pop up when I upgraded to 4.1.4 MR3. Did the workaround; working like a champ.

Lots of us here are big fans of the spork-edge cutover.

I also did option 2. I detached and attached the mdf and ldf files from the old server to the new server. Then upgraded the new server to 4.1.4 MR4. Server is working fine.
