Default B/B Handheld wired upgrade - No BES recognition

Please Login to Remove!

Hello All,
We're in the middle of a massive upgrade of some of our handhelds from 3.6 to 4.x. The upgrade is being accomplished via a wired scenario to the customer's Desktop Manager.
Today I was looking in one of our Blackberry Manager Consoles (ver 4.1.3 HF2 - Exch. 2003 SP2 environment) trying to see if I could see any improvement in devices that should now be showing their "Blackberry version" under their BES account as 4.0 or above (of course, below 4.0 has that field blank). However, I haven't been seeing any improvement.
I discussed this situation with RIM, and they informed me that because the upgrade was being done wired, that the B/B device would NOT automatically advise the BES of it's upgraded handheld code. They advised me that there were two options to resolve the issue;

1. Perform a new Enterprise activation on the device (not feasible at all).
2. Perform a delete/undelete on the Desktop (CMIME) service book.

Has anyone else experienced this issue ?? Does anyone have any other suggestions that they could throw my way in terms of forcing the BES to recognize the upgraded version of the Blackberry device ??

The version number and other stuff only shows up when you do EA when the server is at 4.1. The EA process populates the information.
