Default BES Install on Member Server

Please Login to Remove!

Guys/Gals,

I have installed BES several times on SBS 2003 and have never had a problem. My issue now is, I need to install BES again but on a secondary server. Several questions:

1) Does BES have to reside on the Exchange server?

2) Will BES install on the same server that the GOOD software system resides on or are there compatibility problems?

All of our servers run Windows 2003.

Thanks in advance for your help!

No. BES really isn't meant to be on the Exchange server. It should be on it's own machine. BES just needs the Exchange System Management tools installed so it can have a MAPI connection to the Exchange server.

2) Will BES install on the same server that the GOOD software system resides on or are there compatibility problems?

I would avoid this like the plague. GOOD uses a different method to route mail then BES but I would place the BES on it's own machine. You may bring down the GOOD server, but I have never heard of BES running on a machine running GOOD as well.

Hope this helps.

Default One more question ...

... when purchasing a new server for the BES, how do I handle licensing for the new server?

I have approx 30 users but only 10 max will be using the BES.

You'll need 1 BES server license and 10 BES CALs.
You can buy CALs individually for about $100 each, or in volume groups. I think a 10 User CAL is about $900 or so.
