Default BES 3.6 and 8300

Hello All,

I have inherited a mess. I have a BES of on W2K Server running with Exchange 2003 SP2 (different server). We currently have 7290s but they are getting long in the tooth. Somebody (not technical) in my company has decided that we would purchase 8310s to replace the 7290s. This person was told by the cell phone rep that we could implement the 8310s with out having to upgrade the BES. I have searched the forums and found mention of replacing the device.xml file on the BES, but I cannot find the file location on the BES.

My questions are: Will the 8310 work with my current configuration? If so, how do I make it work? Do I need to install the desktop manager on the BES server? Thank you for your time in this matter.

Andy... it's time to upgrade your BES to 4.1.
Rather than waste any effort trying to fit the proverbial round peg in the square hole, you'd be better off putting forth your efforts to get your BES upgraded to a currently release.

You may eventually be able to use your new 8310 devices on the 3.6 BES, but you're really not addressing the actual issue here.

Write up some proposals and try your best to get your company to spring for the new BES.

It sucks that you've inherited this mess, but you can easily turn this around and make yourself a hero by bringing your company into the 21st century with new technology.

The someone in your company must really like the BlackBerry Curve! But yes, it is time to upgrade especially with 4.1.5's upcoming release. Let them know the benefits of 4.1. Wireless synchronization of Contacts, MemoPad and Tasks is MORE than enough reason to persuade in my opinion not to mention things like wireless EA etc etc etc.
