Default Rules and mail to Device

As I am new in the role of supporting BES, I am learning new things everyday, infact, every hour. One thing I noticed and need to confirm if this is by design.

Desktop: Lotus Notes
BES 4.1

User has a rule in his LOTUS NOTES mailbox that says, move the message to Folder01, if the sender is "ABC@gmail.com."

[email address] sends mail, arrives in Notes mailbox, rules is applied, message moved to Folder01.

Mail message is not forwarded to the Device.

Is this by design?

You need to check the Folder Redirection settings on the BlackBerry for this particular user.

Sounds like they have configured their device to only redirect the Inbox, and not other folders.

Messages > Options > Email Settings > click menu > Folder Redirection

Make sure that Folder01 is set for redirection to handheld.

What a great forum and participants! prompt and helpful replies. Thanks a lot. Though I did not find the setting on the device but similar setting I found on Desktop Manager 4.3 under EMail settings - Advanced. Selected the folder and it works.
Once again, thanks.

Yes. Just a little info. In Domino (Notes) design these are called pre-mail agents, i.e. the rule redirecting the message to a folder works as the message is delivered to the mailfile. This means it totally bypasses the inbox (as opposed to being delivered to the inbox and then moved). As such, in notes, any mail rule that acts in this way will effectively "hide" the message from the BB UNLESS the target folder is redirected.

This is quite useful from my point of view. It allows me to redirect alerts from specific systems to my BB, whereas the thousands of generic server alerts I receive per day are restricted to notes only.
