Default Backin' Up yer MSDE/SQL

Please Login to Remove!

Greetings All,
Question for you:

Is anyone backing up their MSDE or SQL databases, with the Blackberry server live, via some sort of backup agent? (ComVault, BackBone, VeritasNetBackup)

Or, are you taking BES down, first, and running backups manually?

Thanks in advance, all.

Just normal SQL backup or using the blackberrdbbackup.exe tool in the utilities folders. Both able to do live backup.

It was a couple of point versions ago, but I did do a few tests checking that blackberrydbbackup backups taken "on the fly" could be restored without errors. I never found any problems. The caveat is that this was Exchange (with Lotus you'd have other issues, obviously) and only three or four test users.

A side note: At WES last year I asked about backing up a SQL based db with the blackberrydbbackup.exe utility and was told that method was not recommended. Not sure why or why not but there you go.
