Default MDS Account/OU/Org

Please Login to Remove!

This is one for the Domino BES Admins....

I have an old account in my Domino Org, called MDS Account/OU/Org. I know it is an old account, as it's certificate is due to expire soon.

Can anyone remember what this account might have been for? I am guessing it is an old BES 2.x account. I never setup the user or the BES server here when it was 2.X, and the previous admin documented nothing.

I cannot see any use for it in my 4.1.X BES org, but just wondered whether anyone used to have one of these in their domino domain, and whether they've now removed that user?

That was for one of the later version of BES 2.x. BES needed an account to use for accessing some BB database and MDS needed an account for something.

You don't need the user anymore.

FYI From the BES Domino 2.2.1 installation manual:

Create a Notes ID

1. Create a Notes ID that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server’s Mobile Data Service can use to connect to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server databases (for example, MDS Service Account/Admins/CompanyName). The Notes ID should meet the following requirements:

• You can use the same Notes ID for multiple BlackBerry Enterprise Servers, but the ID file should be available locally.
• The Notes ID must reside in the same domain as the server on which you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
• The Notes ID should be used only by the Mobile Data Service.
• You must add the Notes ID to the BlackBerryAdmins group in the step below.
• When you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, you must specify this Notes ID and password on the BlackBerry Mobile Data Service Communication Information installation screen

I suppose now that MDS connects to SQL that this account is no longer needed, I can't think of a reason why it would need access to state db's or profiles db.

I removed my user from the BlackBerryAdmins group awhile ago and nothing broke. I didn't get around to deleting the person doc.
