My company has a BES 4.1 SBS on MS Exchange that is capped to 15 clients. I read about Blackberry Professional Software 4.1 and it seems to hold a higher number of users. Is this a possible upgrade? What are the differences?

You can unlock SBS to get to full BES - speak to your carrier for more details / prices. This will come at a cost and give you 5 extra licenses.

Not totally sure whether you can unlock SBS to get BPS. BPS has some stuff missing from it that is in full BES or SBS - such as enterprise instant messaging connetivity...

BlackBerry Professional DOES NOT offer
- MDS - you wont be able to conenct to applications servers in your environment using MDS-Studio applications
- Corporate Instant Messaing - The collaboration service is NOT part of the BB Professional so you cant use the Enterprise Messanger on the BlackBerry device

Thanks for the replies. We don't use the MDS services or corp. instant messaging. Exchange email only. I would be happy if it allowed us to go over the 15 user limit, since we are getting close to it, and the full BES is really not necessary here. I read that it will allow up to 30 users. Is that correct?

Correct. BlackBerry Professional maxes out at 30 users.

In the long run upgrading to an Enterprise BES may cost less. All CAL's are compatible now so that won't be an issue.
