im registering for bcx-213 tomorrow, the exchange version of the one you took.
probably going to take it the 20th of june, then BCX-211 xxx8211; Supporting BlackBerry devices in an Enterprise Environment some time early july.

What did you think of 212? were you prepared enough? surprised at how hard/easy it was? how long did it take?

I took BCX-410 on March 20th and received my results the week leading up to WES (around May 8th or so).

212 was interesting! I was not prepared enough, but got the beta invitation very late (end of May) and only had limited time to take the exam (only date available in London was June 4th, final date of beta June 6).
The day AFTER I took 212, I got an email from RIM saying they were extending the 212 beta period! Cest la vie - had I know that, I would have rescheduled and given myself a few weeks of cramming.

I felt that some questions were far too easy, and some were ludicrously confusing/hard. However, it is all so subjective as to what components of BES you use a lot, where your experience is, and so on. Before the exam they did ask you to rate your own competencies on several areas of BES/admin/etc., so I would love to know how my answers matched back to my evaluation of myself (but I am sure RIM won't collate this info for user-by-user basis, would take AGES!)

It is also hard to discuss anything in detail on here as I 'signed' an NDA. I would actually find it very interesting to see what level of question makes the final cut, so maybe it's not such a bad thing I feel that I am almost defo going to fail 212, as I can take the "finished" version at some point!

Anyway, as posted elsewhere, read the admin guide, resource kit, installation guide etc - really learn them inside out. Particularly learn the things that you do not do in your org. Cover all bases!

On the domino exam, I (personally) wondered whether it had been written by a predominantly Exchange person - I felt that they used, for example, the term memo loosely - I found it quite confusing (memo is the term used in notes for an email, it is also the term used on a BB for a notes journal entry, so when they just said something or other about "memo" it did make me wonder which "version" of memo they were referring to...)
I found quite a few very similar questions with different wording, but I guess that is the point of a Beta.

It took me over 2.5 hours to complete the questions on the first pass, then worked through them all again. Didn't manage to use the full 4 hours, probably spent 3.5 hrs in there before it had got to the stage where my answers really were as good as they were going to get!!

Now that the Beta period has been extended, I am wondering whether it will take longer to get my results back, would love to know how I did, but am not holding out much hope.

Am doing 'BCX-211 - Supporting BlackBerry devices in an Enterprise Environment' on July 3rd. Anyone got any ideas of good study guides for that exam?

I'm taking the BCX-211 Beta exam on July 3rd as well. Last year, I attended the Introduction to Administering and Supporting BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software V 4.1 and the follow up course Administering and Supporting BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software V 4.1. (Course codes 601PES41_CRF127 & 716-00271-123 respectively). I'm using the workbooks from those courses as a my study guide for the Beta. 601PES41 is one of the recommended workshops for BCX-211 according to the training prep matrix. In addition to those 2 workbooks, I'll prolly review the Installation Guide, the Admin Guide, the Upgrade Guide, and the Feature and Technical Overview for 4.1.5... just to be on the safe side.

Since I'm not an Exchange or GroupWise Admin, I should read up a bit on those platforms to note the differences. (MAPI and GW Connector are teh sux!!!1!)

I'd rather over prepare for the beta, pass it and not have to take the real-deal at a later date. But maybe that's just me.

I'd rather over prepare too, hopefully have enough time this go round!
I also did Administering and Supporting BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software V 4.1 last year, which was the Level II course. Boss wouldn't sign off Level I (?!). Hopefully if RIM recommend Level 1 course for BCX211, I should be OK with my higher-level book? (I hope)

Gah, hadn't even thought that there might be exchange/gw stuff in 211.
My course book for "Administering..." seems to be quite platform independent.

Thanks for that cruwl...we'll check it out. Oh...i just came back from the BCX610 Beta. Tips: know the Port Numbers BES uses. Know each of the BES components and what they do, which ones can be deployed on remote servers, and which ones can be put on the DMZ, ummmm...what else...oh...and hardware minimum requirements for installing BES. That's all i can remember for now. later all!

Default online courses?

Is there any online courses or guides to help study for the bcx-211 test? Or is there any books available??

Going to any training or getting training paid for anytime soon isn't an option here. :\

Thanks

MEH.

Just got another email:

To accommodate the greatest number of beta candidates completing the BCX-212 – Supporting a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server in an IBM® Lotus® Domino® Environment beta exam we have extended the exam period to now run from:

Friday May 9th – Monday July 7th, 2008

Argh!!!!!! I wish they had just had a better window to start with. I sat my test just before the original deadline (with very little notice for me to be able to study) - they have now extended it twice!

This will probably delay my results too.... I just wanna know how I did!

Did you really expect anything else? Unfortunately, your expectations are too high ... this program is totally new and unexpected changes will happen all the time

So are the tests still in beta or can you actually schedule them and get the certs if you pass now?

Also, other than the admin and upgrade guides, how is everyone preparing?

Default How long did the test actually take you to complete?

How long did it take everyone to complete the test, and did you take the beta or the production test? I'm contemplating taking the betas for 213 and/or 610. I haven't studied anything for either of them, but just got an invite and its a short deadline so I thought I might give one or both a shot just for craps and grins.
I'm just trying to determine if I really need the 4+ hours they schedule (and recongnizing that everyone is gonna be different as far as how long it took).

Exactly the same thought process here, did not really have time to prep for 212 but thought "sod it, what do I have to lose?" (company stumped up the exam fee). I took Beta. AFAIK, production tests are not out yet for Domino.

I took two and a bit hours to answer BCX-212 on the first sitting, with some questions missed. Then spent another hour checking all my answers, and guestimating the ones I did not know. Spent about 3.5 hours on the exam, 10 mins on the questionnaire at the start, and left. I was honestly at the stage where going through the exam again wasn't gonna help!

I sat BCX-212 at QA-IQ, 10 Roseberry Avenue, Holborn, London - not sure what the Prometric site ID is. I chose QA-IQ because I got the beta invitation very late in relation to the original deadline, and it was the only site with spaces left.

I have no idea how I did - am awaiting results. The beta period for 212 has just been extended again, so not sure how long the wait will end up being.

For BCX-211, I have a space at Global Knowledge on Old Broad Street in July

Is BCX 211 still in Beta's. Joluth, you asked about 610...? I did mine 2 weeks ago and updated this blog on what to look out for. No results until they release the live version. Beta for 610 has been extended as well...sheesh. Whist waiting, i may go for the BCX211...hence my question, Is 211 still in Beta?
