The BES needs port 3101 enabled for outbound initiated for bi-directional traffic. That's it. If you BES is connected, the SRP status will tell you, then you are good to go. Unless you missed some permissions or the Exchange server doesn't allow the activaiton email through.

PLEASE NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO OPEN UP PORT 3101 INBOUND TO YOUR BES.

Exactly what gibson said ^^

Default SRP Disconnected ...

.... is there something I need to do on the firewall?

How do I diagnose this SRP disconnected message?

on the server go to (default location):

C:\Program Files\Research in Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Tools

and run a bbsrptest. does it work?

You most likely don't need to modify your firewall configuration at all.
