Default Can't add users: licenses exceeded

Please Login to Remove!

I registered and downloaded the latest version of Professional Software that comes with 1 CAL.

I installed it in a domain controller using the administrator account. Later on I discovered that it should have been installed using the besadmin account which already existed (for another BES installation on another machine). So I followed the RIM articles for changing the BB service accounts, importing the registry information, etc. Following this, the BB was no longer able to access the GAL (the global address list in AD, ie, when you chose "lookup" in contacts). Unable to figure this out, I decided to reboot the server, wipe the handheld, and go through another activation.

However, after deleting the user, I am unable to add it back again. I get the following message:

"The number of users selected exceeds the number of available licenses. Please select a fewer number of users to add."

There was nothing at all regarding this issue online. Very concerning to say the least.

I uninstalled BPS completely, and re-installed (using a new database just to be on the safe side), this time from the besadmin account. Wiped my BB again and went through enterprise authentication. All successful; can now search the GAL (contact lookup), the calender appears to sync both ways. E-mail also syncs both ways...but for unknown reasons did not sync my existing emails in my inbox following activation, the first time I've seen this behavior. Updating my 8100 to the latest desktop software will let you guys know what happens.

Hi mDavid,

BPS removed the purge pending users option so the only method to free up the license when a user is deleted but in a pending state is to either create a new DB or remove that user from the database. I'm not sure why they removed that option as I have seen this happening quite a bit lately.

It is strange that your email did not populate during the activation. You could look at the logs to see if email pre-pop was triggered. The MAGT log should have that info.

Ensure that you have the same version of MAPI32.dll on the BES and Exchange server as well.

After multiple wipes, including a reload of the OS, uninstalling 3rd-party apps, taking out my MMC card and activated several times -- no joy.

Checking the MAPI32.DLL versions, I notice that my Exchange has an older version than what is on BPS server. I should also mention that my Exchange is 2007 SP1.

After doing some searching, I entered three registry keys for forcing prepopulation. After a few tests with all my service books coming in (there seems to be more now), and all my emails are prepopulating.
