Default HOWTO: Identify the version of BES you're running - 02-23-2008, 11:50 AM

UPDATE: Direct from RIM ... finally:

Version numbers for BlackBerry Enterprise Server for IBM Lotus Domino
Versions of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Novell GroupWise
Versions of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server 3.6 and earlier for Microsoft Exchange
Versions of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.0 and 4.1 for Microsoft Exchange
---------

One thing that always plagues me when I work with customers is finding out the exact version of BES (Service Pack, Maintenance Release, and Hotfix too) that is running on any given server. I don't like asking people to go through logs or open up the application to try and find a value that may / may not match somewhere else that I'm tracking information.

I've found the best way is to:

1) Go to the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel applet (Start > Run > appwiz.cpl <enter>)

2) Locate the reference to "BlackBerry Enterprise Server", select it and then click "Click here for support information.".

3) The publisher listed should be "Research In Motion" and the Version will be the exact version of BES currently installed.

For example: 4.1.4 MR3 (Rollup) (Bundle 117). The Bundle is a key part of that data as it'll identify the MR & HF. 4.1 is the BES Version .4 is Service Pack 4 ... RIM was nice enough to also include MR3 in the name, but they don't do this with all patching.

=====

Here is a list of what I've quickly put together from known versions of servers I either have or documentation I have that references these specific numbers. If something is listed as GOLD, it is the RTM / Initial release with no MRs or HFs applied to it. If you have any versions in your environment and know exactly which SPs / MRs / HFs you have applied to a server please post it as a reply to this and I'll update the initial post with the relevant information. If anything is wrong in my posting please correct me so that I can update it.

The format below is:

Version = What is displayed in Add or Remove Programs.

=====

Blackberry Professional Software for Microsoft Exchange

4.1 SP4 MR4 = 4.1.4 (Bundle 143)

Exchange

4.1 SP5 = 4.1.5 (Bundle 79)

4.1.3 Hotfix 2 = 4.1.3 HF2 (Bundle 61)

4.1 SP2 = 4.1.2 (Bundle 47)
4.1 SP2 HF1 = 4.1.2 HF1 (Bundle 67)

Default Please hep identify - Urgent! - 03-17-2008, 12:24 PM

I have a conference call with RIM in 45 minutes, and my GroupWise BES just says "4.1.x" under support info in add remove. Anyone know how to identify this?

Thanks!

Domino

4.1 SP4 MR3 = 4.1.4 MR3 (Rollup) (Bundle 131)
4.1 SP4 MR2 = 4.1.4 MR2 (Rollup) (Bundle 111)
4.1 SP4 GOLD = 4.1.4 (Bundle 24)

4.1 SP3 GOLD = 4.1.3 (Bundle 37)

Version discrepancy:
I followed the directions you listed above, and my BES identifies as 4.1.3 (Bundle 37). The problem with this and your list is that our mail server is Exchange 2003 as part of Small Business Server 2003. BES is running on a stand alone version of Windows Server 2003 R2.

We do not have Domino installed anywhere and never have.

BES was installed back in July 2007 (BES Express as we are only using 9 licenses at the moment). As it has been running error free since, and I had other issues to face as the new (and first ever) network admin for this small but growing business, I haven't tried to run any updates on it. Now that I've settled into the job, I am finally working on getting this up to date.

h, I'll summarize the above post for ya:

Please add 4.1 SP3 GOLD = 4.1.3 (Bundle 37) to the Exchange section as well.

BCSA
BES 4.1.6 :-: Exchange 2007 SP1
