Default BES Or Exchange Upgrade first

Please Login to Remove!

I have to upgrade the BES from 3.6 to 4.0 AND the Exchange server 2000 to Exchange 2003.
What will be the right order to do the upgrades? First Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 and then BES from 3.6 to 4.0 or first BES to 4.0 and then Exchange from 2000 to 2003?

flip a coin, either way will be ok.

Personaly, I would upgrade the Exchange first, making sure to have the right copy of CDO.dll on the Exchange2003 machine, ready to copy over for your version 4 BES upgrade.

[This can not be stressed enough!]
Be sure to read the upgrade documentation and fully complete any pre-instalation tasks before you begin.

I agree I would do the Exchange side first. And then I would give it a little while to make sure everything is running OK before moving to the BES upgrade.

Will the 3.6 version of the BB server continue to work with the new exchange server?

I am a Domino shop but I know it is supported having 3.6 BES with Exchange 2003. On the Knowledge base there should be an install checklist for BES 3.6 that will talk about having Exchange 2003 installed for that environment....they may even have a article on migrating Exchange 2000 to 2003.

Yes, BES3.6 will still work. But it is advisable to do the Exchange first as suggested above (and after a week or so) then upgrade your BES server.

Exchange first... I had BES 3.6SP5 working in a transition between 5.5 and 2003... it was ok.
