Default BES DR NA and EU connections

Please Login to Remove!

This is in discussion here and I'm not clear of the benefits. Some would seem to depend on the topology of things in RIM world.

One solution to the increasingly frequent RIM NA outages that has been proposed is to get a second BES key that talks to the EU RIM interface. Would this even be useful?

Almost all users are US based.

If the data flows Exchange->BES->RIM NA->US Carrier now (correct any of this if wrong) would it actually flow Exchange->BES->RIM EU->US Carrier with that key and avoid the planned and unplanned RIM outages?

Or do things flow Exchange->BES->Rim Instance->Local to carrier RIM instance->Carrier

There's a gray area in my knowledge and we're looking for how to deal intelligently.

The data flow would be:

BES retreives emial from Exchange
BES NOC
Carrier
BB

If you want to have the BES connect to the EU NOC then you will need another SRP. The first time an SRP connects to a NOC it is locked to that NOC. RIM can unlock it from that NOC if you want, you will have to call and plan when to do it. Also, keep latency in mind as well, especially if this is Exchange.

Also, what is your plan? Will the BES be permanently in EU? Do you only want the DR BES in EU?

Both BES must exist in the same NOC as they will share an SRP. If you go with a new BES then you will have to reactivate all users, but I'm sure you're aware of that.

Why not sign up for BES Professional and test this out. It's free, so set it up with a single user and see if the BES performs up to your standards.

Best idea I can think of anyways.

But will having data routing throught he EU NOC get data back to the US carrier's in the event that the US NOC is down?

The idea would be to use this in a DR scenario and/or maybe have some users on it permanently to verify connectivity.

With something like the planned outage this weekend, would this keep our service up (assuming we bounced users or gave them a second handheld?)

Yes, this should work since BB is international in scope. You just need a second server / SRP that you ask RIM to register with either the EU or AP NOC. I have re-registered SRP's across NOC's before but always the SRP was physically moved to a server in that area of the world. I would check with RIM if they have some routing restrictions to lock it down, and if they don't then yes this should work.
