Question Sync Outlook Calendar

Please Login to Remove!

I am running a server with BES 4.1.4 and a seperate server with SBS 2003. I cannot sync the calendar from my 8300 handheld, but can sync from Outlook on my desktop.
The BES server has administrator rights on the SBS server and no matter what settings i change it still wont sync from the handheld.
Any advise would be appreciated.

This issue is one of two things:

1. CDO.dll mismatch between BES and Exchange
2. Permissions

CDO.dll must be the same version or higher on your BES. IF it's lower you will get this issue.

The BESAdmin account CANNOT be a domain admin or any admin. The only time the BESAdmin is in an amdmin group is when the BES is on a domain controller, the account should then be in the built-in admin group only. Also Send As must be set in Exchange System Manager at the Server level and should inherit down to the mailbox store and public folder store level.

Unhappy CDO.dll Files

I have checked the CDO files in the Exchsrvr\Bin directory, and they are as follows
BES 6.5.7226.0
SBS 6.5.7651.61

If I need to update the BES CDO.dll how do I do that ??

I would double check the version of MAPI32.dll as well. If the BES is lower then apply SP2 for Exchange 2003 to your BES to update both CDO.dll and MAPI32.dll. You cannot update MAPI32.dll manually, the SP needs to be applied.

If MAPI32.dll is fine then just copy the newer CDO.dll from the Exchange Server to your BES. Place it in the System32 folder and navigate to that folder in a Command Prompt and run regsvr32 cdo.dll to register it. Then restart the Dispatcher service.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Cool MAPI32 and CDO

The mapi32.dll versions are
SBS - 6.5.7638.1
BES - 6.5.6944.0 (this was located in exchsvrs\bin directory)
1.0.2536.0 (this was located in the system32 directory)
Which directory does the BES use ??

It looks like you have, or had, Outlook installed on the BES. The BES mainly uses the System32 folder and the MAPI version is 1.0 which can't handle server type requests well. If you apply SP2 for Exchange 2003 to your BES you will correct MAPI and CDO in one shot. Uninstall Outlook first so you won't get the MAPI 1.0 again, that can cause major issues.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Unhappy

I have applied Exchange 2003 SP2 to the BES.
It did not make any difference to the Calendar Sync. Still only 1 way !!

Did you compare your MAPI and CDO versions since the install? They should match your Exchange server now.

Also, did you check permissions of the BESAdmin account? The article in my first post has them listed.
