Default BES Question

Please Login to Remove!

We currently have a single BES and are purchasing a new server for our current site and would like to use the old BES at our DR site. The question I have is, can we have both servers up so that the one we place at our DR site is an exact duplicate of the new BES server. This way if the primary goes down, the one at DR can be put online to handle the BB's. Also, if this is possible, will I need additional licensing for all the users or for just the BES? Any help is appreciated.

One more question: We are thinking about instituting Boxtone. Any feedback on that would be appreciated as well. Thank you.

Two BESs with the same SRP can not run at the same time. You can install it on seprate server with same SRP and connected to a same or copy of the same database but with BES services stopped. If one goes down you can start services and all should be good. There is more details on this forum about it just search for it.

Ok. What if I have an additional SRP? Is there any issues then?

No issue. You can have multiple servers connected to a same database. If your server a is down you manually move users to server B. Switch service command is sent to each device and as long as they are within data coverage they are operational within a minutes...Not sure that that is what you want.

So, will I need separate licensing for all the users on the backup BES, or can I use the same licenses from the primary?

You don't need additional handheld licenses, just the second BES license with a different SRP.

Thanks for the info...this answered my question. Any response to the Boxtone question. We are thinking about instituting it, will this help automate updates and things like that on the BES.

Well I can give you feedback ;p

Have you been talking with anyone from my company?

Also reach out to Jibi on the forums or search for some of his threads about BoxTone. He has one of the largest BB deployments on the forums and happens to be a customer of ours as well.

Thanks

Jon
