We are running BES 4.1.4 for Exchange (2003 SP1). We have several domain controllers in our domain and a few of them are going to be worked on this weekend.

Should I care? How do I determine which DC my BES servers (we have 7) are using?

Does this impact anything other than address lookups?

Whatever you would be able to do with Outlook when DCs are down, that's what you'll be able to do with BB...

btw, how do I change which DC the BES uses? do I wait until the affected DC's go down, then reboot or restart services in order to pick up the next available one?

I usually have more then one global catalog and don't down them all at the same time...Just add GC role to another server and that's all. It will search for another GC, but not sure if it would do it automatically though. You might need to restart the BES services...Lookup RIM KB and see how you can hardcode that but I strongly advise against any hard coding in network ...

BES uses GC's; while GC's are also DC's ... not all DC's are GC's. Make sure you have at least 2 servers set as GC's if you plan on rebooting a GC.

based on past experience in our environment, it doesn't look up a new GC automatically. Most, of our domestic DCs are GCs as well...I know which ones are which, just don't know how to force the MAPI profile to use a different one other than a reboot (maybe a full stop and start of BES services would work the same way?). They'll be down for 4+ hours each, so a reboot is better than just waiting out the DC outage even though we rarely reboot our BES servers any more.

Thanks...got to the same result when I searched the rim kb. Looks like we'll need to make a registry change and restart Dispatcher.
