Default Hide besadmin from exchange address list

Please Login to Remove!

BES up and running fine.

besadmin shows up in exchange address lists but would prefer account not show up. I believe normal users cannot be hidden for BES to work, but is it can the besadmin account be hidden?

Welcome to BBF!

Once you have installed BES & successfully created a MAPI profile you can hide it from the GAL. Any time you need to change / modify / review that profile you need to unhide the object and make sure the directory updates before you attempt to make any changes.

I appreciate the quick replies.

It appears there are two opinions. I need the BES service to work, but I would rather not have the besadmin account show up in everyone's Outlook address book.

I suppose I will simply experiment.

Go to "Active Directory Users and Computers" on your DC.
Find "BESAdmin" user.
Go to "Properties"
Go to "Exchange Advanced"
Check on "Hide from Exchange address list"

in active directory on your domain controller , you can check the box hide from exchange address lists.

Had an issue with this once though. when rebuilding the bes once, and setting up the MAPI client, that box has to be unchecked for the bes to find that user.

Again, I wish to thank those who supplied useful information. Perhaps I did not explain the situation sufficiently. I am fully aware of how to hide an account from the GAL; however, I had come across information which seemed to imply that the besadmin account should not be hidden for BES to function correctly.

fadmin... I do not understand your replies, on one reply you state "It can be hidden if you don't need BES services any longer.. " which would lead one to believe that BES services would not be available if the account was hidden, then you reply again that now I know how. These replies seem to contradict themselves.

OK, sorry if I confused you. I would never hide it but as usual hdawg is right. If you want to keep hiding and unhiding when you need it, then sure hide it. I mean what is concern here about hiding from GAL? Just so you want to have "clean" GAL?
In my second post I was laughing because people were giving you instructions how to hide it which is not what you were asking...
