Default Upgrade from BES 4.0.2.8

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I want to upgrade from version 4.0.2.8 to the latest version.
I think this is 4.1 patch 5 isn't it?

Are there any things that I need to check or keep track on?
All the hotshots are using this server, so I need to be careful

Can I roll back the upgrade if it fails?

Please give me as much info as possible..

Thanx!

Yes you can do it. You need to make sure that you do the following:
1. Get the full install of 4.1.4 (not sure if 4.1.5 is public yet)
2. Backup the Database.
3. verify you have the backup of the database (Very imporant )
4. verify you have a copy of BES 4.0.2 in case you need to roll back.
5. Upgrade.
6. restart.
7. Upgrade the database (this is part of the install)
8. If the upgrade of the database is done then you should be good to go.

If any part failes then I would do a clean uninstall of BES
Then restore the database backup that you took.
INstall BES 4.0.2.
(Maybe try again if you are feeling lucky. If it fails again post it here with the reason for the failure or you might want to call into RIM support.)

Good luck!

Just a note here, since it wasn't mentioned... you need to purchase BES 4.1 first.
This isn't a free upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1.

Is it possible to install a spare/unused BES express as an upgrade over a 4.0 Version as long as you dont excess the userlimit of the express version ?
CALs seem to be compatible.

... good question. I wouldn't try it, but maybe. Perhaps call and ask RIM and let us know

Well,
since I am not a direct customer of Rim, I guess they will even charge one incident for this question - But, I try.
The guys of my serviceprovider - They dont know nothing at all about it.

Answer of RIM:
Client Licenses are not transferable.

Even, if this answer covers not the technical aspect of my question, its sufficent. I have to buy the upgrade.
