Default BES and activating handset

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, am new to blackberry and have been asked to setup server and handset.
BES seems ok, setup user and generated email and password, on the 8100 i have activated the users work email address and input supplied password and activated, but nothing else seems to happen on the handset.
On the BES under the user it states "initializing- activation password set"
I am obviously missing something fundamental, but dont know what.
Have opened up port on router to allow communication through and handset seems ok as well.
Any ideas?
