Default Shared SQL setup Questions

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

We currently have a single BES for Lotus Domino running in our environment using the MSDE configuration.

We are thinking of setting up a second BES and I have been looking at all the threads that talk about moving the original MSDE database to a MS SQL server and then pointing the new BES to the same database instance. If I understand correctly this will making moving users between the two BES's very easy.

However I do have a question that I cannot find an answer for.

The two BES's will be at different locations so what happens if the internal WAN link to the SQL server goes down and the BES server can not communicate with the SQL server?

Can anybody answer this question and maybe provide a possible solution if this scenario stops mail routing by the effected BES's?

Many Thanks.

The BES will complain and throw errors in the logs about not being able to communicate with the database. The BES will continue to function, and mail will still flow, but it's not exactly healthy to let it run in that "disconnected" state for very long. If the disconnect is longer than a handful of minutes... you might want to consider taking the BES down until your WAN links come back up.

Before you do this.. It's best you make sure your WAN link is somewhat reliable, with low latency.
