Default Moving the MDS connection service off of BES

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

We want to break out the MDS Connection Service off of our single BES server (running 4.1.4, MSDE) and on to its own dedicated server running just MDS Connection Services. Is it as simple as installing MDS Connection services on the separate server and pointing it to the BES?

But first off, can MDS Connection services be uninstalled from BES w/o crippling the BES in any way? If it can, then I assume installing MDS Connection Services on a separate server will be straightforward. The difficulty (if any) is removing it from the original installation.

Thanks!

Mooge

When you install the MDS Connection service on to another server and point to the BESMgmt database you will be asked which BES the service will be working for. Simply choose your BES and once it starts up it will be the MDS Connection for that BES.

I don't believe you can uninstall the MDS connection of your BES but you should be able to stop the service.

Try these...
1) Stop MDS Connection Service and then disable it.
2) Run Regedit or regedt32.
3) Find the registry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services
4) Find the service there and delete it. ~(You may wish to look at the keys and see what files the service was using and perhaps delete them also.)~
5) You will have to reboot before the list gets updated in server manager

Good luck!
