BES Monitoring Solution
Good day all. Is anyone using a third party product to monitor their BES? If so I'd like to ask which products you prefer and why. We are currently looking for a monitoring solution for BES that is more extensive than BES Alert and I'd appreciate any opinions anyone might have. Thanks you,

monitoring apps
We have been looking at these that offer BES support:

MOM 2005
NeedTEXT for Blackberry
NetIQ for Blackberry

none are cheap and offer for the most part the same functionality.

I figured cost would be through the roof, but our user base is mainly execs and they are becoming more and more dependent on the devices so I have a feeling I'll have no trouble getting approval. I've looked at documentation for BoxTone for BB as well as iMP (integrates with MOM 2005) which I think might be the same thing you were referring to jletendre.

Right now MOM 2005 is the direction we're most likely moving as we already have MOM 2000, I think cost of the upgrade was six figures. NetIQ was around 50g .. and NeedText was per 500 clients ..

Same boat here .. with 1500 clients it's business critical and is good job security :)

We are using IMP's MOM pack and it seems to work well if you are using MOM. NeedText was ok but I didn't think it did as much monitoring as it did statistics gathering.

Jack( whom I don't know) ;) .... do you recall what the cost was for the iMP solution? We already have MOM 2005 so I'm assuming Imp allows the integration for MOM.

Thanks for the responses!

I think we paid $799 per BES and I have 2 BES. It was a special. I think list is $999 per BES. I'm assuming you are talking about Ivision's product.

Integration for MOM was pretty straight forward.

Yes, the Ivision product is one we have been looking at. Thank you.

They also provide a MIB file with the installation for SNMP applications that support MIB.

Do you need a special MOM server or can it be installed on One RIM Server? I am testing out Needtext and it seems to provide a lot of stats and web interface but nothing local to the machine-

We user NeedTEXT's product and it works great. The next release will allow your helpdesk people to login and look up users. Currently it only allows 1 person at a time to use the product. Overall though, when 1 of our 9 production servers goes down........we know within 30 seconds.

2300 users
9 production servers

For smaller orgs, you can always use the resource kit with a custom set of scripts that would display output in html format to monitor your BES.

Does the iVision BES MOM add-on pack do a good job? Does it offer valuable monitoring information above and beyond the default MOM 2005 baseline monitoring?

There is a new product I found while googling the other day. It's called Boxtone and apparently it sends actual synthetic email messages from a handheld and through your environment to measure response times. I believe they also monitor the underlying infrastructure as well (BES, Exchange, OS's,etc)
