Default Setting different retention times for different mail folders BES

Please Login to Remove!

For those of you that helped me in getting my first BES install setup and working THANKS!!!

I now have BES running on VMWare server (i know i know) in a test environment with one BB connected to it (me). Everything has been great so far, i have not yet upgraded to the lastest SP (5 i think it is) but i intend on doing that soon.

My question is, i have multiple folders in outlook and while i have figured out how to sync those additional folders i have not been able to figure out how to set different retention times. I have the BES account on my BB set for the last 30 days of email but a specific folder that i want to keep locally on my BB has email that is much older then 30 days, i don't want to flood my BB with thousands of emails by setting the retention for the entire BES account for longer then 30 days. What can i do? Or am i just stuck?

Also, i went with the default policy to start with among the ones that came preloaded. Can anyone give me any policy recommendations?

I have had a few glitches but nothing major and so far i have been pretty happy with it all, now i just need to figure out all the "little" stuff...

Jeff

Default

The retention time is BB wide and cannot be customized to specific folders. Also, your BB will not be flooded if you up the # of days b/c it does not "sync" except for the initial activation prepopulation which pulls in the last 14 days or 750 messages max (with a reghack). The BB is designed like a pager and focuses on current and recent mail, and is not designed to be an email repository in itself. It will be years, if ever, before you see a full mailbox mirrored on the BB.

That said, there is a new feature coming which will allow you to search your entire mailbox from the BB and retrieve certain items, which alleviates some of the pain points of this design.
